Default waaay too slow installation/downloading process

hi so i just bought S2TW a while ago (retail) and installed it, so basically everything's going without a hitch... except that it's so damn slow. the first part was of course quick, installing the things from the CD, but the latter updating part is taking too long.

I've done this before and have installed other games, such as empire and napoleon, and all of them have finished at respectable speeds. this is the only instance that it's too slow. i've checked the web for help, i've tried restarting steam and even my computer several times, checked local files integrity twice and still takes an eternity. the average dl speed i get accdg to the updates is anywhere from 300-800 kb/s, is that the problem (maybe S2TW is an immensely bigger game compared to others ?)

ETW and NTW were ~16gb. S2 last time I checked was 26gb.

The bit that Irishron is leaving out is that even when you install from CD, you have to "update" (aka, download the entire hulking thing) in steam anyway.

Conclusion: those who attempt to circumvent Steam by buying physical copies SHALL NOT PASS! At least not until they "update" the game.

From the retail DVD was about 10-12 gigs. The rest 15 gigs are patches which also includes files for FOTS even if you do not own it. If you have purchased FOTS DVD however the patches are smaller since the installer also includes original Shogun 2 + patches up tp FOTS release.
