Online matches

So I noticed something before and I think this might be a general problem for when you're looking for online matches but I'm assuming if you mod the game, even if they are just cosmetic mods for how units look, I take it you can't join any hosted games but you also can't find someone to play against in the avatar campaign?

If so this would explain a lot to me but also I removed a file from the main game files (the one that removes the gloss feature on units) which I take is also basically stopping me from having the same version as other players.

So all in all you need the up-to-date version of the vanilla game to play online?

Sorry if this is stupid, I've only played the online mode once back when the game first came out and it's never really interested me till now. Oh and for the reference it's the FoTS avatar campaign I'm trying to play not the normal shogun 2 one. Also as additional info;

1. Internet connection is so-so average DDL is about 700-800kbps
2. The game is modded but nothing like darthmod just basic cosmetic changes
3. I can't host nor join games on the battle list
4. I have been able to join a friends multiplayer game in the past but that was before FoTS and modding the game
5. The game is ran through steam and is an exception on my firewall, etc so I know its not an issue

Once again sorry if this is in the wrong age but considering it's a general question I thought it would be best suited for here.

you can have cosmetic mods for your units on MP and be able to play with others, since its only just YOU whose seeing the appearance, unless your groupies have the same mods installed. for finding people in avatar conquest, you prolly want to verify your cache to play online.

p.s next time you might wanna post this on the multiplayer section. im surprised no one answered you till now.

Thank you for that reply and I will do next time, my fault for over looking it really. Strange though even if there is just cosmetic mods I still can't seem to find matches, granted I think it might be my level but that shouldn't really matter right? Either way thanks for the reply and I'll try it without a few of the animation mods I've got like the bayonets one.

I had a similar problem with Empire.
Your best bet is to start vanilla and add mods one at a time, checking to see if your version of the game is still acceptable for online play.

Your level won't stop you finding matches, but if your game version doesn't match up then it's likely it'll just search forever.

verifying cache ususlly solves the unable to find games, either that or delete everything in your steam folder except steam.exe steamapps folder and your userdata folder.
