    Default Engineering

    Stockades
    Trenches
    Palisades
Bridges (which can be destroyed and rebuilt)
    Walls (such as Hadrian's walls)

All need to be represented, right? They were/are a part of warfare. Certainly, not every faction should be able to create them, at least not initially, but in time as there is a scientific diffusion across nations it stands to reason everyone would eventually develop techniques

I could see things like trenches and palisades being doable like "entrenched" soldiers in empire; if your army spends more than a turn in one spot, they can deploy stuff around the battlefield. I wouldn't get my hopes up for anything like walls or bridges though. River crossings will likely be handled similarly to shogun, with multiple fording spots. Something like hadrian's wall (how would you garrison a giant wall with TW mechanics?) would require an entirely new gameplay mechanic, if CA had it planned we would have heard about it by now.

Edit: What I would LOVE to see was circumvallation in sieges. This is building basically a wall around a city's walls to keep the enemy pinned inside, and giving your men fortifications in case of a sally. From what I understand, in major sieges, this was a rather important part. Have the walls get stronger every turn, maybe just starting as some trenches with wooden stakes, and advancing to rather solid wooden walls with towers.

Caesar had one example of this taken to the extreme, having to make two sets of walls, one to keep the enemy in the town, and one to protect his men from a relieving army.

It seems we will have more walls built by the besiegers from the screenshots though how much that will actually impact battles is an open question. Other siegecraft aspects would be difficult to integrate given current mechanics but hopefully CA will add at least something new. It does seem CA put the wall defense artillery behind stone which I'm a bit disappointed with- it would very cool to see artillery aimed, reloaded, and sometimes set afire or knocked off a wall. Now it looks just like breaking down the towers or captured towers similar to Shogun 2.

Not to mention that the reason for Julius Caesar's success was his quadruple staked ditches with lined up double moats and field walls, forts and towers at Alesia.

Paranoid or foresighted; wasn't paranoid enough, nor foresighted, as it turns out.

This is a great idea that CA seems to be adding. I would like to see these on the battlefield along with the land around the besieged city to be become more and more devastated the longer the siege goes on.

I would like to see all of them.

Too bad the trenches weren't implemented in ETW.
