hmmm, try to use the scroll button on your mouse instead and see if you crash again. Using the scroll you can zoom in on the opposing army.

Or in Options, Game settings, check is the option Restrict Camera checked. If it is, uncheck it and give another battle try.

Maybe it's too much for your computer. Have you tried lowering your graphic options?
