My brother is going to Collage, he likes to game so that's a big requirement. Will also be used for collage stuff andI assume.
Budget is 700 euros.
What games? Windows Solitaire will play on anything for instance.
I would recommend that he narrowed down for pcs that have the gt 650m, asus packs those, but with DDR3 instead of GDDR5, which means lower performance on bandwidth tight gpu. There is also the 7750m available.
I would go for the dv6, envy 15, and whatever clevo reseller that you have around you, the new xps has throttling issues, dell kindly let you choose between cpu or gpu throttling.

I cant find a single clevo reseller , in fact I never even heard of them before i started looking around yesterday. I was looking at dv6 envy 15 and m6t-1000, but the only place i could find them was on amazon, and their site ising terrible. After slogging through it i didnt like any of them, €100-150 more usually got a better processor, 2 Gb more of ram and 1Gb more of VRAM. At the moment I'm looking at the dell Inspiron 17R and the Lenovo Ideapad z580
Actually I'm looking for a gaming laptop as well. My budget is $3000. Yes, I know, it's large, mainly because I'm going to save up for it. I want it to be able to play the latest games available on high res. However, if a desktop would be cheaper for the same performance, I may consider buying that instead. The main thing I'm concerned about it space and mobility, which is why I prefer a laptop. As much as I would like a desktop, I might not have enough space and I might be moving around too much to have one.
A desktop will always be cheaper. No ifs, not buts, its simple it will be cheaper.
You can buy a huge m18x that will give you top of the line performance, with dual 680m, and both can be overclocked to 670 levels, so you get a 670 sli performance.
Clevo resellers are those boutique shops, they are usually going to pack a different name, where are you from?
You could also check the msi gaming line.
Usually vram aint important, unless its lower than 1gb, aside that the power of the gpus wont matter if it has 1gb or 10gb vram.
Specs alone arent the soul of the laptop, those things are mobile, they need to withstand abuse and some other things, they need to last at least 3 years. The ideapad z I have never handled one of those, the inspiron R is from this year and apparently built well. I would avoid 17'' laptops, 15'' is the sweet spot for weight and power, I do prefer 13''.

I am well aware of the economics of the matter. The problem is mobility. My job requires me to be able to travel around every now and then, and I don't always get a lot of room to have a full sized workstation desk, as I would like.
EDIT: Just googled M18X. I always liked Alienwares, every time I used one (desktop or laptop), it performed very well and the hardware specs always stayed good for at least a couple years.

I would advise to get the base model, and 2x 680m, and maybe the cpu upgrade to the 3920xm (you can OC this beast to 4.5-5ghz). regarding SSDs and ram, buy yourself. Also do give a call to them, or enter notebookreview forums in the alienware section and talk to one of the dell reps in there, he/she can give you a good discount.
