Who plays the first shogun yet? and why?
I post here because my question is for shogun 2 players
I played it: it's a good game but I think after TW:S2 its time is over

I still play it. Hell I even played the shogun mod for MTW, but its just not the same.....too many random clans like Honda in Mikawa then year starts in 1400s
Jidaigeki strategy games are too few and way fewer in PC, so I need all the games I can get.
Besides its nice addition to my netbook when I'm not on the PC. And Takeda 3 does not support 1024x600 resolution sadly.
Hell I still have Takeda 1 demo, its still enjoyable, fiddling with formations, countlessly replaying Kawanakajima over and over again.......
Oh wait, this is about Shogun 1.![]()
(Its clickable by the way....An S2 overhaul mod.)
Seriously. Click it. Its the only overhaul mod that's overhauling enough to bring out NEW clans

The original Shogun?
I thought it was all over for the original Shogun when MTW came out as that did a lot more to the game.
STW2 does have a better Campaign system (although it needs it with ships). BAI is not that much better when you compare it to a decade`s old game. It really should be much, much better than it is.
If you`re talking about graphics, then yes it`s better, but graphics don`t a game make for me and I still hate that mass wall climbing all the time twaddle in STW2, even when they have rifles and cannons now.
Funnily enough I still have the ingame waffle on CA`s views on Sieges on the original STW. I remember reading it in detail. They left sieges out because they were `boring`.
I guess times change.
p.s. I still have the original STW, MTW though, just in case Steam does that `I don`t feel like letting you play` crap.

prefer the origina SHogun, at leaest when you recruit units they have a chance of the general in said unit being a famous general which works wonders for immersion.

Not for me.
Date Masamune as leader of a Sohei unit I just recruited in Echizen as the Uesugi?
THEN BECOMES HEIR AFTER KAGEKATSU? Major turn off. The only thing good was the initial turn coz some famous ones are already decked out with stars to boost unit's honor which is back then how they show veterans............after that.gets weird.

not quite ive had the likes of Shibata Katsui, Toshie Meada, Masanori Fukushima, Mitsuhide Akechi and many more show up and when recruit them and yea i will admit heir apparent thing and masamune being part of the Uesugi was lets face it really friggin dumb but the old game still has its charm it still holds up well for fun. But yea certain factions are really screwed, that said ODA was perfect never had issues their lol and the Historical Campaigns were fairly challanging i still get beaten now altho i think thats bad UI / impossible to see whos ally enemy etc lol but yea. Still fun to play and the famous leaders and generals really put Shogun 1 on top for me vs Shogun 2, It took Sekigahara mod for STW 2 to register that missing flaw even then its not perfect. really wish CA would implement unit leaders and they can be swapped asigned to various units much like Takeda 3 then it would be perfect.

Well, for me, the original Shogun at least got somethings right, such as having the Imagawa as a playable faction unlike S2. They were a major clan you know.. The music were better; S2 still uses some of the original Shogun soundtrack. Also, the ninja/geisha cutscenes were better then S2, and to an extent more hysterical.

Obviously, without a doubt, the campaign system have improved over the years, as they had over ten years to experiment with the game mechanics through the release of several hit titles, such as Rome TW, Medieval 2 and so on. I remember reading somewhere where, Kieran, had said that CA has finally got the know how and technology to do what they had always wanted to implement on the original Shogun when making S2 because at that time, they did not have the capability to do so. The technology at that time deterred them from trying to express what they wanted to do in the game before.
Nonetheless, the Original Shogun will always have a special place in my heart. In my opinion, it was the release of Medieval 2 that made the great leap forward in terms of game mechanics of the Total War series.
Haven't played it for a long time since I moved to Win 7 after XP. I remember that you only get your income every 4 turns. Koku is really tight there. Nice feature which I missed.

Ive never played it because it was way before my time, but ive heard there are kensai units which are 1 guy and are like impossible to kill.
My mods
-Mod Leader for the Wheel Of Time This is not the beginning, but it is a beginning
-Mod Leader for Shogun 2: Foreign Invasion if you want a mod with alot of units this is for you, not only is there the 40 units CA made theres planned to be atleast 177 NEW units when its done.
-Modder in the World War I and Shogun II project. The only full scale mod for FOTS and it plays nothing like FOTS. FOTS may have Gatling guns, WW1&S2 has tekidanto samurai, SNLF, MGs, kisho snipers, assault infantry(shotguns) just to name a few.
lol.
Yea. He was a ridiculous pain. He was ONE guy on the battlefield, but he was able to kill hundreds of people. I remember when I first met him on the battlefield, I threw a group of Samurai at him. He killed them all -about 200 men! I was like `WTF???` then I threw a second lot, with a third behind and a fourth in. Finally, he died. I think he killed about half my army!
And I thought the Geisha was `ard!
I wasn`t on the forums then (still kinda rare), so I never found out what all that was about. I guess that was a nod to the over-the-top samurai in Japanese movies where one guy is so good he kills thousands by himself?
STW2 is a lot ore realistic when you consider there`s no such ridiculous uber unit.

Just "hard" played one year with Darthmod and get a lot of fun... now ready and playing with "Road to Kyoto" mod and I like it very much. Rome II can definitely wait for me
But if you mean vanilla version then yes, I get enough of it just a couple of weeks after its release...
I play it once in a blue while when nostalgia hits me, it retains a certain charm even now =)
+ as some mention it has some features missed in S2.
I remember i loved the feature where if you didnt kill of a clan entirely with all their children etc, there was a chance the heir/descendant would rise in rebellion and ressurect his clan ^^
Mmm should install it again :o gosh, *runs of to find the decade old cd's*
edit: i forgot that massive instruction book that came with it.....so much historical facts :o
