RS2 crashing in the heat of battle

i use windows 7 and have steam playing on the alexander version. i recently installed roma surrectum 2 and the 2.5 patch (i used to have roma surrectum 2 but later uninstalled it) after playing the bosporus campaign for a while ive been in many battles with no crashes but then i try the syracuse campaign and in the middle of my first battle seiging a city the game crashes. i tried restarting my computer disableing auto save , and im pretty sure its not the graphics because it was only a 13 unit battle and everything was on low except for buildings, effects, terrain, and unit details all on medium. and it still goes on every single time in the middle of battle.

yeah i used to have that problem but with much more bigger scale battles (AKA first Rome turn battle = Lagg) but it doesnt happen as much now when i removed grass and stuff i dont need. I seem to now only crash when i finish a battle during loading screen it just crashes and i have to redo the battle and it gets annoying.

Please read this post (here) and someone may be able to help you - otherwise it's just going to be a stab in the dark which could waste your time and any person that responds to you.

Also read the other pinned threads as they contain information about CTDs during battle and recommended graphic settings.

As you have admitted to using autosave (which we suggest not using) you've not read the information we've posted about the mod.

Ive looked at every single thread and tried everything i know and still nothing, the syracuse ctd was fixed but now playing as sparta or greece i get a ctd in the middle of my first battle.

i restarted computer, dis-able autosave have all graphics on lowest with unit shaders on, delete map.rwm, i have done mostly everything. idk why i used to play fine all the sudden this stuff starts happening.

also idk if this matters but i have roma surrectum installed on both rtw gold and alex but it crashes on both of them.


- What OS do you use? Windows 7

- What version of RTW do you use? BI and ALEX

- Are you using steam or not? Yes

- Install path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Rome Total War Gold

- Which launcher option have you used (exe, faction etc) BI, all high quality settings turned down or off

If you are reporting a game CTD please provide the additional details

- system specifications, CPU, graphics card idk right now but ive always played this mod before

- graphic options selected (way too many options) all low and unit shaders on

Also the error it displays says "rome total war barbarian invasion has stopped working"

some one please help me im loving the campaign, in some battles it doesnt crash but im getting many lately that do please tell me what the problem is its ruining the game for me ive replayed battles around 20 times now its getting very annoying please i beg of your help!!!!!

@Brusilov; how do you stop the autosave from saving, can't find any button/option in RTW to deselect it! Or do you mean by 'not using', don't 'load' it? Thanks!

The only place to switch it off is by editing the preferences.txt.

What happens is that there can be a problem with the routine that saves the game - the result is that the save is corrupted.

The same routine is used by Quicksave - so the suggestion is to use neither.

I'm not sure when the error is encountered - immediately you try and load the save or if the game itself is corrupted (so a manual save may also have whatever corruption there is).
