yeah looks bad for amd from this; generally a 20-40 % advantage over the fx62 witha $313 card equaliing a 1000 buck fx 62 -> plus the coroe is shown to be a good overclocker!

Damn, even the 1.83ghz Core 2 Duo is a good performer, beating the X2 5000+ in some applications. AMD better do some serious price cuts with Conroe goes officially on sale at July 27.

In the UK there is one site were you can pre order it and there are some US sites that have already started shipping it.
I'm gonig to build my Core 2 system in September..............the antipcation. The only thing I fins strange is when i built my first system 3 years ago at the time I was already thinking how fast processors were going to be in 3 years time. As it turns out the E6600 is clocked at the same rate as my current P4 Northwood @ 2.4 Ghz

The 2.93GHz chip reached 4.0GHz on air cooling in these overclocking tests. That represents a 36% overclock on air with what will likely be the least overclockable Core 2 processor - the top line X6800.
    Sweet

    and even better:
The 2.4GHz E6600 turned out to be quite an overclocker in our tests. Even though it was hard-locked at a 9 multiplier it reached an amazing 4GHz in the overclocking tests. That represents a 67% overclock.

I don't get all this hate/love rubbish. AMD isn't some underground movement run by a couple of hooded idiots out of their parents garage, AMD are a multi billion £ company and there not going anywhere....Conroe or no Conroe.

Either way is going to be a win-win situation, AMD's got some agressive price cuts coming soon in July.

I'm really hating Intel right now, my cheap 915 chipset motherboard can't support Conroe. Ugh, if I want to upgrade I have to buy another motherboard, which means lots of trouble plus reinstalling Windows XP.

Well this is really crappy news. Not only will I need to wait for it to come out, I'll also need to wait for Monarch to offer it as part of their custom PCs. I really don't care about the price of an FX-62 Am2 Socket, but if it's going to be signfigiantly weaker than an intel conroe, there's no point in getting it.

All looking good for Intel. The competition that will ensue will surely benefit the customer nicely in the coming months.

Yeah. I'm a tad confused when it comes to the ghz rates. A lot of these show up as less than my current 3.0 Ghz. But by overclocking I can reach higher, like 4.0 ghz..is that really complex? Or will I be buying a conroe thats worse than my current pentium?

Either way, I'm really hoping Monarch supplies Conroe's soon after the 27th. I'm going to have to prepare a lesser system to wait it out (That might sound wasteful, but the fact is my brother needs an upgrade on his 3-4 year old PC, and once the conroe is out I'll pass this new, mid-high rate PC onto him)

Yes conroe is all what everyone talked about yesterday. Intel has AMD beat for now.

To Ahiga, GHZ doesn't really matter. Though the conroe chips has lower GHZ, the architecture is significantly superior so it's faster (at current price points for the Pentium D and Projected for Conroe) by almost 100% on some of the tests.

Dont forget that we are more limited by our graphics cards then CPU's. In most cases nevertheless, But i think intel has done a good job with there current cpu's leaving behind the GHZ madness,

I think RTW is a notable exception Peter, I'm eager to see if anyone can get some 300k men battles with conroe.
