Default Steam is a terrible system to play shogun on.

I have finally had enough of steams low quality everything. You cant play shogun without an internet connection on steam and you have to use steam to play shogun. recently steam stopped working for me and has caused all my steam games to stop working. Many people have had their fair share of problems with steam and a lack of help from steam support. If you are tired of steams lack of support and many problems that occur for shogun please like the Facebook page "steam sucks" and suggest to Sega that they make shogun available with out steam. Here is the web address to make suggestions to Sega: https://segaofamerica.zendesk.com/an...s_requests/new please also boycott steam in general. thanks for reading this and remember to like the Facebook page.

This has less to do with SHOGUN 2 than it does with Steam in general. SHOGUN 2 was made to be played on Steam. There are already several threads for people complaining about Steam.

Steam works fine for me, if you do have problems with it, please, just reļnstall it and see if it's better. You also don't need continuous internet connection if you log in in offline mode. I hope this solves your problem and people will stop complaining about Steam.

I have no Facebook account and do not intend to get one, so unfortunately I cannot like the "Steam sucks" page. But count me as a moral supporter, I am so tired of Steam only working intermittently. So instead I sent a note to SEGA on the url you provided, with the following content:

"Please SEGA, make it so I can play without Steam. Most of the time it works alright, but then suddenly Steam refuses to open. Like now - yesterday I started a campaign in Total War: Shogun2, but today Steam tells me: "Could not connect to the Steam network". The same happened two weeks ago, I couldn't play one day, I did some trouble shooting from the faqs, but to no avail. Next day Steam was working again. Which suggests to me, that it is not my internet connection that is at fault. Of course I already made sure now that my connection actually works and that my settings are okay.

I feel pretty sure my connection is okay - I can connect to everything else, even Ubisofts servers. So please, SEGA, make it so that I can play when I want.

PS: I know I can play in offline mode, do it most of the time, but how do I change to offline, when I cannot even open the Steam interface to change it, Steam requiring me to go online before I can go offline?

PPS: And please don't tell me it always works on your computer, that is good for you but it doesn't really help me."

Well, perhaps I shall play some anno2070, now that I have access to Ubisofts servers But this really sucks, I was so looking forward to continue my ongoing conquest of Japan

you can fix that problem by restarting steam, usually you gotta end processes of steam32.exe since it will run despite you not being able to connect. it usually happens when steam launches before your pc can detect its wifi settings.

back then steam b4 the new interfaces when steam looked REALLY simple, steam starts off in offline mode and you were able to even dl games while offline, or dl while playing.

yea im gonna say its user error,

but in many cases you can simply reinstall over the old Steam install, that or rename the client.blob file w.e its called and steam will re-initialize that file and bam usually fixes most problems

I know someone whom`s entire games deleted itself mysteriously. It was a long-term game and she`s so annoyed she just borrowed one of my NON-Steam shooter games and shot lots of things for a while.

So far i`m ok, because I don`t start Steam while connected to the net. Seriously, once you get Offline, disconnect your net cable to play Steam games otherwise it will do things on your computer to your game WHILE YOU PLAY. OFFLINE is not offline unless you disconnect from the net.

Really, playing Steam games (especially Offline) is like trying to sit in a comfy chair which every now and then just throws you out on the floor and refuses to let you back in. It`s no fun.

Is Steam really THAT bad? I mean I always assumed all the problems I have had with it are because of my poor internet connection. If you get rid of that problem, it looks like an amazing service.

I will admit, upgrading to BT Infinity (basically fibre optic) did make steam run better. Although, the entire internet, and practically anything on my PC with a connection does too, and so I am considering suing my ISP for requiring users to have a fast connection for optimal service, as it is morally and ethically wrong, does not benefit the consumer in any way, and is merely a way for them to steal my money.

    That was a joke!

Steam is, as far as I am concerned, far better than any other comparable service, notably windows marketplace/Orion. Whilst some have apparently had odd experiences, I have never had them, none of my many friends who use steam have, and I can't find anything on the steam forums to suggest anyone else has, although I admit I hardly did a thorough search, so kindly correct me if I am wrong. I should point out that one of my friends still has 56K dial-up (!!!), and can play in offline mode with no problems.

It is that bad if you want to be edgy and hate on something. Also, it is an excellent scapegoat for ANY problem you've ever had.

I would like to add that steam now and steam from 2009 are totally different. Steam always improves with new features and looks out more for the customer than many think.

Some examples include a complimentary one time use pass that they actually give you a game for free if you accidentally put the game on another account or some other reason. They also warn that you need ARMA 2 CO to run Dayz.

I do nearly all my PC gaming from Steam nowadays, and it's not bad when you learn its quirks. Basically it comes down to this: to always have access to your games, go to Offline mode before closing Steam and make sure it remembers your login. If your connection goes down while Online or Offline, you can keep playing. If however Steam was last Online and you have no connection when you start it up, you may not be able to play.

The big drawback of Steam is they're basically assuming you have a reliable, decent-speed, no-cap connection. None of that wi-fi crap. Though Offline mode circumvents many of those concerns, you'll need to go Online to update your games to play multiplayer.

That alone is reason enough to despise Steam. (Although I think the above issue may have been addressed, I haven't checked).

Add in that uninstalling Steam, not the game but Steam, will automatically remove all your Steam games (even though Steam don't make games) and all the files associated with them. See all those mods you spent hours downloading, Steam will delete those without so much as a "by your leave".

Enforced advertising on my game screen in front of my face in my own living room when I just want to play a game. Yeah, nice. I have to opt in or out of that when I want to MP. I in effect have to inform a third party of my desire to play a game with someone else online.

It's like something straight out of George Orwells "Big Brother" 1984 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bro...n_Eighty-Four)

I've been gaming 35 odd years, I've no idea how Steam has benefitted me and other than frustrations it's bought nothing new to the table for the gamer.
For the retailer yes, for the gamer no.

    EDIT :- Broken Link

Well said sir and I totally agree. Though I've had few frustrating moments with Steam I still view it as an unnecessary intrusion into my personal life that I find offensive. +rep to you.

I too agree with what was said.
