Default Java won't run or install.

The other day i tried to run a game of supremacy1914, and upon doing this i was faced with a popup saying java was non responsive would i like to stop this? So i clicked yes.

When i did this Chrome then stopped responding so i shut chrome down, when i tried to restart chrome nothing occurred after pressing the icon, so i reinstalled chrome and restarted my laptop.

When i logged back in my desktop back ground had been changed to the laptops default background.

Then the same error occurred with Java in all places Java was needed, so i tried to reinstall java, however when i do i get the error message attached.

I have completely uninstalled java and tried the offline installer. Can anyone help me

Java has to be the biggest pain in the ass ever.

Try changing the directory to something different, that's worked for me.

What's your OS? I've never had a problem with XP, Vista, Win 7 or earlier and any version of IE or Firefox through version 3 before I gave up on it.

Which version are you installing, where and how. Also 32/64-bit? Oh and which installer (ie where did you get it from?)?

    Logged in as Administrator?
Do you have permissions set to install it?
If it was Rome or Medival2, I'd blame it onto this. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636

Just to add - Download Malwarebytes, install, reboot to Safe Mode and run a full check of your system. It's a time consuming process but it may help to point to other possibilities for your problems. I hope I'm wrong. Good luck!

    Try here: http://www.java.net/node/690358

It's usually caused by a java version not being fully uninstalled. Try looking for jreMSI.log, java_install.log or jusched.log which should be in the temp directory somewhere. I think they are the installation logs and may show where it is finding a version.

Do you have a dependable connection to the internet on that laptop? That error message you posted makes me think that you're not able to access the servers at some critical point in the installation process....

Java is behaving like a grade A pain in the arse right now - more so for my nephew than me, as his favourite pastime is Runescape.

For some reason, it's suddenly stopped working - it was fine before, now nothing requiring Java will run. I've tried reinstalling it numerous times (deleting the old version first of course) - both with Revo Uninstaller and Add/Remove programs, I've tried numerous different versions and nothing will work.

Furthermore, the problem is affecting both my PC and my nephew's laptop. They're not connected in any way, so I don't know what's going on here. I've also tried different browsers, no joy.

Edit: Using Firefox primarily, but I have tried other browsers on both machines.

Does anyone have an idea as to what is going on here? I thought it might be something to do with the router, given that it's affecting both machines, but I've checked the settings and there's nothing blocking Java. I've scanned both machines with numerous packages, and they're both clean as well.

Assuming Vista or Win 7, could it be not having permissions to do this? http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=397636 from the C: drive icon can give you all the permissions you need logged in as Admininstrator.
If it's a single user computer disabling the UAC in Vista and Win7 does wonders.

Are you using a web installer of a full offline installer?

I don't think it's anything to do with that - I'm using an Admin account, and it was fine up until now. Perhaps some insidious update has messed something up somewhere. I'm a bit wary about disabling the UAC as well.

I believe I've tried with both - no joy. And as I said, this is affecting my machine and my nephew's laptop, which is something I don't understand. To me, that points to some kind of block setting with the router, but I've checked that and it's all clear.

Just now, I tried Runescape again on Chrome this time and it said that Java needs my permission to run. I gave it permission, told it to run always on this site and it's still not working!

I'll assume both are running through the same router?

Do you have any ad blocking or script blocking software on either machine? Are they the same programs across both? Hopefully you see where this is headed - maybe you have a problem with third party software? That's one avenue of approach.

Otherwise, if you have different software between those two machines, then a recent Java update may be to blame. I have been seeing quite a few recently myself. Good luck!

On my machine, I do have some script/adblockers, but I recently did a system reinstallation on my nephew's and no such things were installed so that can't be the problem as far as his system is concerned at least. And yes, both systems are running through the same router. I'm going to get my sister to bring her laptop here next time she comes - if Java won't play ball on that either, then it has to be something to do with the router in which case I'll do a default reset of it. If that doesn't work, I'm at a total loss. The thing is, if there was an issue with the router, I would've expected it to affect the whole internet, not just one goddamn application!

As I said, if it was for me I wouldn't really bother - but Runescape, which is my nephew's favourite game, requires Java.
