    Default SLI 670 performance

    Hi

I am only getting about 69 fps using the "Benchmark game settings" option. Shouldn't it be more?
I've set everything to max in game with 4xMSAA. I thought I saw some review site getting 100+ :/

GPU: SLI 670 2GB latest drives
    CPU: i7 3770k @ 4Ghz
    RAM: 8gb

Tried Fraps, same results. Anyone running 670 Sli ? what FPS are you getting from the benchmark?

benchmark settings vs DX11 high learn the difference and youll understand why your performance is down,

regardless the GPU benchmark is worthless, as the CPU bench shows you your worst case senario aka it actually shows soldiers fighting i know amazing, and at 4Ghz youll be in the 25-30 fps range, as the CPU decided the framerate during battles once melee is joined.

    I don't understand what you're saying , DX 11 benchmark I get about 112 fps.

What he's saying is that the "DX 11" Benchmark doesn't involve the units fighting each other. The DX9 CPU benchmark does. TW games are ridiculously CPU dependent. There's a chart floating around showing a DX 11 CPU test, and a similar CPU to yours pulled almost 30 FPS.

My i7 950 @ 3.7ghz and GTX680 2gb drop into the low 20s when large groups of units collide in melee combat.

In sum: your CPU, despite being OC'd and nearly the fastest on the market, will barely pull you 30fps in S2TW when large melee battles are occurring. Search the webs for "shogun 2 cpu benchmarks" and you'll find the charts to which I refer. They've been posted on many similar subjects in these forums. Sucks but true.

Damn, guess that explains why what scaling I get from Sli seems to disappear whenever the big fights start. So is this a problem with the game not taking advantage of the new CPUs?

Absolutely. Though S2 is the worst offender, other newer games, e.g. BF3, get CPU bottlenecked too. My 680 can pump out more frames on ultra than my i7 by a long shot. (The destruction in BF3 uses a lot of cpu power, though it's nowhere near as bad as S2).

Basically devs can't, or won't, or don't know how, to utilize multi core cpus. This is becoming more and more obvious with each new game that comes out, and at this point there is no CPU than can keep up with a 680 or 670s in SLI. (Same goes for 7970 etc..)

And the best part of all, the CPU is probably the single hardest thing to upgrade in a PC. Likely you need a new MoBo. Which basically means an entire new rig, vs simply replacing one GPU with a new one.

    Cool, huh?

Which driver version do you have exactly? I noticed that on the Nvidia site, you get a rather old version from May which performs very badly with S2.
You can for example get the 305.67 from guru3d.com

correct, as for SLI with plain jane DX11 high preset option SLI = 100-110fps

if your in game settings are high thats why your only seeing 60 or so,

DX11 high preset is not max settings but for reviewers its easier to use the preset because they dont have to list the custom config for the review.

UPDATE: I've solved the problem thanks to A Barbarian suggestion . I updated to the current dev drives which are 305.68 and now benchmarking game settings with 4 MSAA gives me 105 fps up from 65ish before . I highly recommend anyone using 6XX cards to update to the beta drives.

The game feels much smoother now even in thick battles. Apparently FoTs patch didn't agree with the
new cards, thank you all for the help ^_^.

That's so true, I just sad face whenever I hear about a new CPU socket coming out :/
