Not sure if this has been asked but is there any archaic city plan of thebes with it's 7 gates .. and if so, is it going to be added?
Would be nice touch.

oOo
Rome 2 refugee ...

It would be a nice touch but is impossible in the RTw engine. You can have more than 1 wall in a city, but the 2nd one would only act as decoration and can't have any gates in it.

I don't think that's what he meant... after all the 7 gates of Thebes wouldn't/couldn't correspond to 7 lines of walls one inside the other, as (according to the myth) they were all assaulted at the same time by the 7 argive generals...
I think the question is if there will be a unique city layout for Thebes (or any other important city for that matter, e.g. Athens, Sparta, Syracuse, etc), similar to what has been done for the city of Rome in some other mod (sorry, don't remember which one it was, I thought it was in PI, but I may be wrong)
It is a valid question, though I'm afraid the answer will be negative (too much work, maybe even engine limitations).

im 99% sure there wiull not be any unique cities in hte first realease and maybe not ever its a massive amount of work and at the moment we are focusing on more important things

i thought so...
it's a pity though, I'd love to see the acropolis of Athens in the game![]()
Since almost every city had an acropolis (they chose spots where there were big hills) it would be interesting to make one new city layout for all the major greek cities ingame- I don't think that's going to happen for version one though. If it did the capturing point would be on the acropolis, with the market on one side, residential districts all around and an upgradeable wall surrounding it all. Good for us the game starts before the persian wars so if we wanted to do Athens it would be alot easier- the construction was much less ornate and functional, plus no long walls. I was also thinking about specific ports for the Athenians and Carthagianians but I doubt that will happen unless somebody knows of a way to limit construction of a building to one city, not factionwide. Honestly though guys would you rather have the game in a couple months with no new major battlemap changes or a revamped version sometime next year? I think the answer is obvious, that way if we feel inspired to make new buildings and new layouts there will be no rush to make them.
Believe in Hegemonia... Or the Megarian will get you.
this is an old thread but a very interesting one!nice info!
Macedonia was,is and will always be Hellenic.
it is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice.
Actually it gets more interesting when you consider this : http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...hlight=eternal
It just got you thinking if someday we will see something like that happening for like the major greek cities. Athens, Sparta, Thebes, Argos or whatever.
How cool would that be?!^_^
And i remember signiferone said he could do athens with the acropolis and all, or something like that. I wonder what happened and what development there is in this area.
Redfox - the author of XGM Diadochi started at some point working on unique model for Athens with the Acropolis and such. Maybe you could ask him to share his work? Can't wait for this mod to come out, with or without such improvements!
I think Snevets who has been working on custom city plans for over a year could give you guys a decent answer (and maybe a hint at which cities he's working on atm), but I haven't seen him around in a while. :hmmm:
will the city of athens have an acropolis ??? man that will look cool too cool and its city square on top of the acropolis the last stand of the athenians against xerxes !!! before it was burnt !!!
I would rather die on my feet than live on my knees !!!
Well it's a LOT of work to make unique cities and not many people know how or are willing to do it.
