Total war gold edition: can't change screen resolution

Hey guys, couldn't find the right forum so thought I would put this into the medieval 2 forum in the hope someone can help.

Basically I have reinstalled medieval total war as I was feeling a bit nostalgic. The problem is when I adjust the screen resolution it doesn't change I was wondering if anyone knows a solution to this when running it on windows 7.

The technical help forum is about four lines down from the top of the M2TW General Discussion screen. I have recently installed M2TW Gold on a new Win 7 64 bit laptop with integrated graphics and much to my amazement it works fine, despite the lack of a dedicated graphics card. Maybe you are choosing a resolution setting not supported by your PC and just need to choose the right resolution or a different monitor

What resolution are you trying to move to? Try reverting back to basic 800x600 and move up one tier at a time. Does this have any effect? But really I think your problem is....

I suspect your [preferences.cfg] file is marked as read-only - since the game can't change the preferences if the file is marked RO you're being locked out of any changes made in the game. To solve it navigate to your M2 Folder, locate the [preferences.cfg] file, right-click it and check [Properties]. Look to the bottom of the pop-up menu and de-select "Read only" and try making your resolution changes in-game again. Let us know if this works. Good luck!

Hi, I have a really huge problem with my Medieval 2 Total War and Medieval 2 Total War Gold Edition. For my first copy of M2TW the game was completely fine nothing wrong when I accidentally changed the my screen resolution it changed to the top left corner of the screen it was also flashing I couldn't click or go on my options menu then top left corner was big. So I got M2TW with Kingdoms and I installed Kingdoms on top of my first M2TW folder and I thought it would make a change but it was still the same. I uninstalled it then Installed my other new M2TW and the Kingdoms again and it's still the same for some reason... Different CD I can only play the when I run administration but I got the Kingdoms for Third Age Total War. A mod for Kingdoms but I can't run on Administration it's the exact same of my first M2TW please help! Do I need to change it from folder?
