PC crash. Screen no signal. Fans running at 100%

Strange problem that occurred about a week ago but has since occurred much more often over the last several days.

This occurs any time, doesn't seem to be linked with gaming. Originally thought it was an overheating issue but i have found that this also has happened about 5 mins after starting the computer after it has been turned off for about 10 hours

I highly doubt it is an overheating issue. Fans seem to be running quiet, inside of tower is clean, SIW doesnt report high temperatures.

Basically what will happen is the screen will turn black. The words 'No signal' pop up (which is what you normally get when you shut down).
It will looks at first as if the computer has shut down but the tower is still 'running' the lights are still on, but the fans are running at like 100%.

It still seems to be a completely random occurrence though. Sometimes it may take 6 hours or so, but sometimes it may happen twice within 30mins

When it first used to occur, it used to be a blank blue screen. The blue screen hasn't occurred in a while though

It's not recognizing your graphics card. Time to install the drivers.

I did update the graphics card drivers via Nvidia panel on the 12th. Checked for updates today, none. Do you think possibly that may be the case?
Possibly going back to the previous drivers?

You just bought some new RAM, right? Are you still using the old chips? If so, make sure they're exactly the same frequency and voltages.

I doubt the new ram has much to do with it as this was occuring before i even considered adding more.

A "No Signal" error could also point to a fairly benign problem. Have you checked to make sure your cables are seated properly? Especially the monitor cable. Maybe it's not fully seated and that's why your getting this error. A low tech solution but it's worth investigating....

What Bolk is asking - are you running RAM from two different manufacturers? Possibly at different clock speeds? RAM can be touchy about that kind of thing. An answer would help to cross off a possible problem in our minds. Good luck!

Tell me about it. When I had three Kingston sticks and one Crucial, my PC didn't like it one little bit! Freezes and BSODs all over the place.

this is what I copy and pasted from the windows crash log after I rebooted system.

Also note that quite often, I get artifacts( almost always half screen black half screen checkered black and white) but then it goes back to my desktop and a little bubble on the bottom right says

AMD Drivers have failed but have succesfully recovered. This only happens if the computer isnt really doing anything though, it usually bsods then reboots. If I'm gaming its almost always an instant crash when the artifacts come.

Do you currently have (or have you ever had) a program named "Spyware Doctor" on your system? This error code you've given us seems to be linked to it.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling your graphics drivers. From what I'm seeing here it seems like a longshot but it may be worth a try....

Please upload this minidump file. It could help us to narrow down your problem.

In summary - if you've ever had SpywareDoctor on that system in any shape or form then that is a highly likely suspect. But there are other possibilities. Please drop that dump file on us so we can make sure. Good luck!

well, i already wiped and reinstalled drivers but still having problem and I dont believe i've ever had spyware doctor on my system.

Also, where can I get this mini dump file from?

I'd say Bolk's points about ram are valid.
Are they the same manufacturer, speed, voltage, etc. as your old ones?
Have you considered running Memtest to see if it finds any conflicts?

Well if this was happening before he added more, it's likely not the issue after all. However, won't hurt to look.

No i've got a single stick in their at the moment. I took the old 2gb one. Replaced it with a single 4gb.

Different manufacturer. 1333mhz for both.
For the rest of the specifications, thats all i could get.

Memtests after about 30mins report no errors

Just some reading for you. It looks like the DVI port may have been problematic with the Asus flavor of the GT220. There were a few other issues to look at but I'm out of time. Maybe this will help you steer in the right direction? Good luck!

Further development.

We now have a blank red screen.

This remains for about 20 secondswith fans starting to run at or near full capacity I restarted the computer and it worked alright. I got the the login screen when the comptuer decided to shut down and restart again except this time with a blank screen. It started up and made the windows 7 noise as it does when it gets to the windows 7 login screen but no visuals.

3 crashes within 5 minutes after about an hour of use with no gaming. This isnt high stress stuff. Crashes happen indiscriminately

Will do a visual check to see if there is any blatantly obvious damage

But i'm seriously considering getting repair services in to take a look at it. Just hope they don't take hours and charge more by the hour than i get in a week!
And that also stresses the importance of storing important information on USB which luckily i have done

But i'd still massively appreciate ideas as to what it could be. If i can find out what it actually is then that could save hours of expensive diagnosing

The only real change is the ram. What I have read is to run Memtest a minimum of 5 full passes, preferably overnight.

Hear any clicking noises when trying to boot up?

When was the last time you cleaned dust out of the PC?
