Why are you upgrading? need a real gaming computer and my old one kicked the bucket (well my hard drive can't boot)

What is your budget?: anywhere from $900-$1200 or up to $350 a month

Where do you live? New York, U.S.A.

Can you build this computer yourself, or do you need to buy prebuilt? i have never built a computer before.... but i can try

What are you current system specs? OS: windows 7 home premium 64 bit, BIOS: default system BIOS, Processor: Pentium(R) dual-core CPU E5800 @ 3.20Ghz (2CPUs), Memory: 3GB RAM, DirectX 11, Graphics Card: Intel GMA X4500, Hard Drive: 1TB (thats all it tells me)

What screen resolution will you be using? 1600 x 900

What websites/stores can you purchase parts from? any

Do you need to purchase peripherals? the OS

i can do something up later to busy right now but if no one else comes up with any thing ill try and see what i can do around the $1100 mark

OS = $100 so that gives $1000 in parts which is the sweet spot for bang for buck,

OK you're in luck, nice to finally do an American build. Now we can break out the beauty of Newegg's free shipping, lol.

CPU and MOBO $354 (Intel 3570k, ASUS ASUS P8Z77)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...=Combo.1033223

GPU - Galaxy GTX 660 Ti 2GB $320 (with shipping)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162120
Great mid-range card, should keep you in the game (no pun intended) for 2-3 years and looking good, at a minimum. If you're truly looking to save, and don't mind bad graphics, you can probably stretch it for close to 5 and still play new games.

    RAM - G.SKILL 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM $44
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231546
Great company, lifetime warranty on all their stuff.

PSU - PC Power Modular 600w $90, with promo code PCPBTS15
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817703036
They're not as on top of their game as they used to be, but they're still one of the best.

    HD - Samsung F3 1tb $90
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185

    Chassis - NZXT Source 210 $40
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146075
Nothing fancy, very well received and will get the job done though.
Or slightly more expensive but slightly better is the Haf 912
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Tpk=haf%20912

    Cooler - Thermaltake WATER2.0 Performer $62
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106188

Final budget, not including OS is $995. You can knock the card down a little bit, or the cooler and free up some money if you want. If not, this is good bang for the buck.

Also, with the mobo cpu combo, you get a $20 gift card from Newegg 4 days after you order. Order the hard drive separately and use the code to knock the price down $20. (Thanks for Crazyeyes for the help on this btw.)

This is the Same Build as Above that i helped Bolknosky with but take note their are a few directions you need to follow to SAVE money, ITS YOUR LOSS IF YOU FAIL TO HEED SAID ADVICE

now that i have your attention you there is a PROMO CODE you need to ENTER AT CHECK OUT
    PROMO CODE: RWCP2008
this takes 20% off the price of the powersupply, this = $20 saved

Next their is a GIFT CARD that will be EMAILED TO YOU 4 DAYS AFTER YOUR INVOICE IS EMAILED TO YOU, the gift card is included in the CPU + MOBO COMBO DEAL,

This e-gift card is good for NEWEGG only and its $20, what you need to do is WAIT ON PURCHASING THE HDD untill you get said gift card, once you get the gift card put the HDD in the cart enter the gift card as a payment option, then select to pay as you normally would this will save you another $20,

That takes the cost from $1015 in PARTS down to $995 with PSU PROMO CODE down another $20 on the HDD to $975.

    Total Cost of Parts $975.
    Total Cost of Parts + Windows 7 = $1075

if you feel the Extra cost is worth it with the above savings its possible to fit a GTX 660 Ti 3GB into the build instead of the 2GB for about $40 more http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814162119

not a big deal but its a consideration considering the money saved means Total cost would be around $1110 give or take.

and for those wondering why on the Rosewill CAPSTONE Power Supply, if you dont know how to find U/L listing ill make it simple brand doesnt mean everything OEM does, the oem is Super Flower they are in the class of Elite PSU makers with many of their units receiving perfect scores in performance.

EDIT epic fail we forgot the Optical drive .... thats about $15 so scratch the 3GB upgrade possibility
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827151244
$20 with shipping so total cost with OS as is $1095 shipped

If you have an optical drive from your old PC, and it's SATA, you can probably reuse it.

thats just it though any combo deals, Mail in rebates, gift cards, instant savings will be long gone by the time he has money meaning this process will have to be done all over again. So yes still a waste of time.

it may not be broken it just doesnt boot, that tells nothing about the drive, could be the MBR is trashed, could be a error in some sectors of the disk that failed to get moved, both of which a reformat of the drive aka long format boot and nuke it but thats a discussion for another time. now if the drive is dead dead then yea no dice
