Default Elite Units, Unit Limits, and Regional IDs

    Hello all,

First, let me say, I love this site. I've been lurking here for years, and have found a ton of cool stuff for various Total War games.

However, I have been attempting to mod Empire for years, and I can't seem to get it. When I say mod, I mean more like "tweak."

For example, I was playing as Russia, and wanted to keep recruiting the Siemenovsky guards even as a Republic. The same with other elite units.

Also, I want to change some Regional IDs and unit limits, for example, say I want to play as Britain, and recruit 2 units of Black Watch, from Europe, instead of Scotland. Those kinds of changes, very minor!

That being said, I have tried a bunch of the tools on this site, and I am stumped, I cannot change what I want without CTDs.

I was wondering if somebody here could help, you guys are pretty talented, and this could be a walk in the park compared to other issues.

    Thank you!

Howdy, and welcome to the modding forum! The changes you've asked about are pretty simple and straight forward in modding terms. As for learning try DBEditor, a decent tutorial for which can be found HERE. Run through the tutorial, if you have any questions ask in the thread.

As for how to edit those particular things, recruiting the Siemenovsky Guards as a republic can be done via the units_to_gov_type_permissions table.

Recruitment regions and unit limits are done through the units table, specifically the Region_Unit_Resource column and the Total_Cap column (coincidentally located right next to each other), the region uses a combo box for error free entry, and a Cap of 0 gives unlimited recruitment allowance.

As for the CTD's, never modify any of the original CA pack files, it's just bad practice, plus if you remove any entries things tend to fubar quickly, plus if Steam ever decides to redownload the file on its own, you've lost all your changes, plus... well you get the picture . It's much safer and less error prone to create your own mod, which the aforementioned tutorial walks you through. If you still get CTD's check the cells you changed to make sure they are the right format (no decimals in int32 columns), or simply post the error in the DBEditor thread.

Thank you for your help, Jinarik! Ironically, I was just looking at your tutorial, which I will try and see.

I have a few questions, though. What is exactly pack4 and 5? I look at what I need, which is the mentioned Units_gov_type tables, and it says pack 2.

For the Units Tables, which pack is it? The latest I have is "Units-Version 3"

I'll post what my errors are upon trying again.

    Thanks again!

Which version of of the DBEditor did you download, 1.8 or 1.96? I assume since you see patch 4 and 5 you have 1.8, if so grab 1.96 from the link in my above post, it's an updated version since the original DBE from Chambers stopped development around patch 1.3 or so.

    Ah, I see!

Thank you, I did some editing, and everything is ship shape! I'm so happy with it.

    Thanks a bunch man!
