Default French arrest Pussy Riot demonstrators

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012...sted-marseille

Several people protesting peacefully in Marseille against the trial of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot were detained by police for wearing balaclavas, under France's controversial law that bans Muslim niqabs and all face-coverings from public places.

About 30 demonstrators gathered outside the Russian consulate in the southern French city on Friday to protest against the trial of members of the feminist group famous for wearing bright dresses and colourful balaclavas.

But police swooped on about seven wearing multicoloured face-masks in solidarity with the band, reported La Provence. Asked why the police had stopped the demonstrators who had been standing peacefully behind a banner about the power of poetry, a senior officer told the newspaper: "They are wearing balaclavas in a public space. It's illegal." He said the demonstrators would be questioned and a report written.

I guess that Pussy Riot are in danger of Islamofying France. Are they armed with Muslamic Ray guns?

Yes, it is now illegal to stick it to Putin in France because Sarkozy hated Muslims. Time to scrap this crap law. At least this lot won't face 3 years in jail, I suppose.

Well, good to know they aren't selective in arresting people covering their faces, I guess.

    I guess.

But I suspect that if Sarkozy proposed a law banning feminists from protesting against dodgy regimes, it would not have had legs.

There is a chap who pays the fines of those Muslims who fall foul of this law. It would be a nice gesture if he does likewise for these ladies, as a stand for free speech and irony.

Doesn't make sense to fine French punkband supporters if you hate muslims...

My guess is that the police actually is taking the masking ban seriously and that any Frenchman who want to demonstrate anonymously is going to have to stick with Twitter from now on.

Indeed. If anything, this case proves that the ban is not exclusively directed against islamic face coverings at all.

Apparently so. It must be about the state telling women what they must wear.

So Sarkozi knew in advance that Putin will run into a band of lunatic female punk singers, so he made a law that would allow the French police to arrest them thanks to the band habit of wearing mask and baclavas ?

The KGB must have a time machine or some .

It is merely a random coincidence meeting the French police willingness to equally apply the law. /thread.

I guess both Putin and Sarkozy are freemasons. It is all fabricated. Also, look at the T-shirt one of the girls was waering, reading "No pasdaran!". If you take the letters of these words, mix them wildly and replace them with totally unrelated different letters, it reads "Freemasons rule the world, and candy is sweet"

Sarkozy knew it was a crap law, which could lead to unintended consequences, but he thought, wrongly that being a tad racist would win votes.

Why does this law still exist? Masked feminists are hardly public enemy number one?

I decided to make a quick google test to see what kind of people you might wish to stop by banning masks.

I started out with "riot molotov". First four images:

Then I tried "bank robber footage":

Based on this it look like rioters are the nr 1 victims of the face showing ban, bank robbers on a solid 2nd place while the muslim women are on a distant third.

For kicks and giggles I also tried "EDL demonstration"

So would somebody stop this madness, Think of the nazis!

The first two examples would not require a face covering ban in order to arrest them, because they have committed criminal acts.

I can't say that it is too bothersome for EDL chavs to cover their faces. Might be an improvement. It is their deeds that bring them to the attention of the authorities.

They should keep their shirts on though.
