it was common during naval battles soldiers were firing their arrows (if archers) and were boarding the enemy ship if melee troops when it was close. are we going to see something like this in rome

When a nation forgets her skill in war, when her religion becomes a mockery, when the whole nation becomes a nation of money-grabbers, then the wild tribes, the barbarians drive in... Who will our invaders be? From whence will they come?”

I got the impression from the title that they were going to attach arms to the ships and make them punch other ships.
Way is this thread here? I mean we have seen the boats in action, and we have all played FOTS.
So Yeah they will use bows, and do some boarding action with melee weapons.
lol boxing ships

That highly depends on what types of ships we're talking about... Take the Carthaginian quinqueremes for example. They where basically anti-ship weapons that would ram the enemy ships and not engage in melees.
@VarrKhaitan
Not really. Read some books...

If they implement all aspects it would be awesome. Basically you don't want to hit the enemy ship in the waist, where it's weakest, because you may be trapped and become a target yourself. You were supposed to hit them from the rear quarter, then back oars fast to search for a new target.
I really dont know enough about ancient sea warfare, but back then I played Rise and fall (which is free by the way), I was blow away by how awesome the sea battles was.
So yeah Rome2 is going to be awesome.

Shogun 2/ROTS had decent ancient naval combat, although the addition of ramming and Romans (R&R) into Rome 2 will make it far better.
Ever since Empire we have had both boarding actions and marines shooting at the other ships with handguns and rifles, why would it be different for Rome 2 where it was even more important?

I really hope they make the naval battles feel important in r2, in shogun they were always small scale and you basically just faught them to keep them from pestering your infrastructure with bombarments... I felt like having a navy kind of decreased in fun due to the lack of trade nodes, you still have to protect your lanes now but it just doesnt feel as important for some reason.
Apparently it was Rome that invented the idea of boarding ships for combat, whereas prior most marines were assigned to shoot up the enemy if they got too close, and that ramming the enemy was often the typical method.
Edit oops wrong thread.
Anyway, i think the battles while similar in principle to those of Shogun 2 (galley, boarding and arrow/stone/fire throwing) will be very different anyway.
First, ships (at least the smaller ones) will be present by units, hence more ships on screen and less control over what they are doing individually.

I don't get why people keep asking about things that are already in the game, I mean ship to ship melees have been in the game since Empire. Have you played any of the games since Medieval 2?
