I agree, I think we should post more tutorials in the PotW forum.

WOW that looks great. I like that example at the end, very nice. I have photoshop 7 i think, would I be able to attempt this on that?

Did you use this effect in this weeks potw entry?

I'm pretty sure you can do it with 7.0, you may just have to take a few different steps. I'll check and see.

This is what I got using 7.0. The only adjustment I made was instead of going to enhance (a tab which 7.0 doesn't have) - adjust color - remove color, I just brought up the hue/saturation box (ctrl + u) and put the saturation all the way to the left.

Shft+Ctrl+U also auto desaturates an image.

I'm trying to do this in GIMP but I can't get the layers right. Has anone done it in GIMP or knows an easier way to do it?

I've tried the "Softglow" effect as well, without success. If nothing else works, I could upload each of the layers and paste them here, if anyone is willing to help.

Edit: I figured it out, but it looks a little different in GIMP.

I kind of like the original more. Submitted to PotW...

Personally, I like the edited more, it gives a darker, grittyer feel that I really like. And good luck to you sir!
