As CA stated that every faction can have it's own share of civil war what do you expect for different factions? Can we expect some generalized difference between a republic or confederacy on on hand and an empire or kingdom on the other? So in essence a system a bit similar to ETW where upper and lower class unhappiness could cause a rebellion for either a kingdom or republic (lets forget about the middle class for now). I think this could be adapted for RTWII where unhappiness of the patrician/noble class would cause a rebellion for a confederacy or republic while unhappiness of the lower class can result in a rebellion wanting an emperor.

But how good would this fit with other then roman factions? I can see it working for Carthage or Greek factions, and also barbarian factions with tribal confederacies instead of republics would work I guess. But is it realistic to expect a Seleucid or Macedonian republic? I think I like it.

Or can we only expect rebellion in one direction (towards a dictator)? A general, family member, tribal chieftain that wants to grab power for himself?

Anyway, I'm really enthusiastic about the possibilities of inner faction rivalry and politics. If done right it could add a whole new layer to a total war campaign. I enjoyed managing my family really much in Rome, imagine managing your family while at the same time managing the threat from other families or tribes.
