    Icon3 Founding new cities

In the ancient world it was common to found new cities. Alexander the Great did it very often (Alexandria...) and not only the Macedonians and Greeks did it: Carthago was a city foundation of the Phoenicians. The Romans did it too.
What do you think? So why not the ability to found new cities by yourshelf everywhere you want on the campaignmap? So not only predefined places where cities are, also to chose to found new cities everywhere you want and build it as big as you want if you have the money and settlers.

like the idea and obviously should be optional since some people dont like the idea it should be done like if you double click on a citys name you can rename it but nothing more than that...

Yes re-nameable cities and changeable capitals would be great for making your empire a bit more your empire.

I would happily put my house on this feature NOT being ever added to Total War.

As Rogergargantua said it's Total War not Civ. It just wouldn't fit in

Maybe you didn´t understand what I meant: Sure there should be the cities that were important in this timeframe, but also to add new cities if you want to. That has nothing to do with Civilisation. In Empire cities were predifined and you could NOT choose the place to build a new one. Total War games are not a simulation to play the history exactly from year 1 to year 100. No, you could CHANGE history if you like to do so.

Maybe it could really be optional. Or you could only build a few in a campaign or they are so expensive that you cannot spam the map. Maybe its a bad idea, but I think it would fit to antiquity. But thats only my opinion. I guess most of you dislike this idea.

Maybe they could add an option of "Raze city"? This would completely destroy all buildings in it and create a new basic settlement that you could rename(possibly). It would be useful for unruly populations as it would destroy every cultural building etc and replace them with your. It could also inflict a permanent repression bonus. But it should cost quite alot of money so it isn't used often.

No I do think this is a feature better suited to Civilisation than Total War. It'll be too complex trying to fit this in with the existing campaign gameplay.

I can see this working if it works like in Empire. If the Capital city of a provine grows big enough, new settlements pops up in that province and creates their own borders within it. So a bigger a more prosperous faction Can access New cities without having to start wars to claim new cities. This Can add well to smaller Trading factions like bithynia that läcka military capability. It also makes these prosperous factions to become harder to defeat. The settlements that pops up should only be sur to Big population in Capital city of a region. If the capital recruit many units it Will not grow due to population drainage, and no additional settlements Will therefore pop up. So there could be a certain balance. Warlike factions a more likely to achieve new settlements through take-Overs. Whilst frienflier faction Will have an easier time to get cities through pop-ups.

Founding new cities would imply making new provinces out of regions, something that the engine wouldn't support, I think.

If anything, you could make a fort (like the one you made in RTW) with the characteristics of a castle in M2TW, in an already present province. That would really be nice. Then of course you give a name to it.
Since we're in the classic age, then I wouldn't even speak of forts, but rather of colonies your nation can found in the middle of enemy territory.
Romans have experience with it (think of Luceria).

perhaps if some regions start out empty and you can build 1 city in those regions, I'd still rather have CA use their time elsewhere

Being able to found new settlements have been a life long dream for me in Total war. I enjoyed doin it in Age of Wonders, mayhaps one day we will have a feature like this. i would really enjoy it with colonization.

While I like the idea the only way it can really work is if its like Empire but you get to choose where to put the city, and I don't think the ability to place cities where u want is part of engine... granted you could build forts where ever you wanted you couldn't customize your fort the way you customized the capital city in that region and you couldn't recruit units from it ether...so as awesome as this idea is i don't quite think its possible...
lol but if it is PLEASE tell me because I WOULD LOVE IT...

IMHO, we should be able to choose which region would become the capital of province. For example, in the province of Tunis, when Carthage is destroyed, Utica should be the new capital city of the Tunis province until Carthage is rebuilt and became bigger than Utica.
