DBE by default will not allow any changes to CA pack files, since changing them is a bad idea. If you really want to change CA files though, you can disable the CA Packs are Read-Only option in the File menu, but if something goes wrong you'll either have to verify the game cache through Steam (at best) or re-install altogether (at worst). Making a mod is very simple and there are some very good guides to it here, search for my DBE Tutorial for one geared toward this program.

Hi all. Just wondering whether anyone could help out with a little problem I've encountered. For the most part, everything's working fine with the editor, but for some reason any changes I make to the technologies tables table are being ignored in-game.

Anyone know why this might be? Is there a file which is taking precedence but not showing up with the editor for some reason?

I made changes to research points required and to some of the info pics for technologies, but none of it is taking effect in game.

There's a similar but only partial problem with the technology effects table - some changes I make here appear in game, but some don't. For example, I've removed all effects of the Seasoning technology, but in-game it still gives +25% recruitment cost and -15% upkeep cost for ships.

I wanted to change just a few numbers in the KV morale table, unchecked 'read only' and the tables change to white from grey, but I am unable to make any changes, either by clicking or double clicking.

If I create a new table, copy all files from the KV table and then make my changes, will it work? Or do I need to make it a new pack?

To both of you try to create a new .pak file and create a new version of the table you want to edit and name it different from the original one. Then make your changes in the new table.

I did that, just guessing and it worked, thanks for confirming.
I've only made new units with new names before this, wasn't sure if it worked the same, thanks.

Still no joy. I tried making a new pack file called 'patch6', hoping this would supercede the patch5 and patch2 files which the editor loads, but anything I put in it is being ignored by the game.

Sorted now! I'm using the ETF mod, and there were some files which were taking precedence over the CA files. For some reason though, the ETF files only seem to get detected by the DBEditor every so often, so I hadn't been loading them. Strange.

If neither program can their Common.dll, then you didn't extract the zip file correctly. Your DBEditor folder should look something along the lines of this:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

For Windows 7, right click the zip --> Extract All and choose a folder (or use whatever zip utility you prefer). If you still have problems, post a screenshot of your extracted folder. Also note, that PFM and DBE should not be put into the same folder, Common.dll is different for both programs at the moment.
i have not been able to get this program to work. i have sent you message earlier about this.
on coming across this post, i think i should let you know that my folder has 4 files and not file as displayed in your picture.

Hello everyone, I get a glitch every time I try to duplicate a line in a table from a .pack file. The editor creates a new line, but it contains only a black horizontal band, which is completely unusable, and it gives the following error message: DataGridViewComboBoxCell value is not valid.
I am still able to delete the line and continue working but I need to create completely new lines, which suck industrial amounts of pachidermal phallus.
Eternally grateful to anyone who can help, happy gaming!
