Our story begins in the kingdom of Gilneas. Protected by the mighty Greymane wall, Gilneas stands secluded from the rest of the world. Here, we find a young boy, on the verge of manhood, obsessed with the outside world.
Chapter I: The forests and fields.
Anduin was a tall, lean boy with short brown hair, a small nose, and dark eyebrows. He was never a particularly strong lad, not really into sports, nor was he in to fighting. Much to the dismay of his father Tobias, Anduin always seemed to have his nose in a good book or an ancient scroll of some sort. Tobias tried to get the boy interested in fighting and training, but without much success, so Tobias tended to favour Anduin's elder brother Varian instead, who was always at the stables horse riding, or training with his father in the arts of battle. Anduin didn't mind though, he preferred to be in his scrolls, and was delighted when his mother convinced his Father to hire a proper tutor. Anduin has been taught the ways of the scholar, the quill ; speech and eloquence, as well as numbers and history. Now, after thriving for so long under his Master, Anduin is finally free to make his own choices in the world.
Duskhaven, Gilneas.
Anduin sighed as he gazed out of the window of his bought house in the village of Duskhaven. Rain again. He thought, as he watched the rain beat down upon the muddy ground, and the blackened trees sway violently in the wind. He he sat down at his study and whetted his quill, carrying on with his great task.
"The Legacy of the Duskglen family" he read to himself in his head. He had been lucky to afford this house, but the noble had paid him handsomely to write the history of his family and it's important role in Gilnean politics, plus it's involvement in the second war, which was rare for a Gilnean family, since so many were secluded and refused to help their cousins of Lordaeron and Stormwind. The Noble, Jacob Duskglen, was more than happy to pay him the handsome sum of 150 Gilnean Crowns once he had seen his basic manuscript, which was enough for Anduin to be able to live comfortably in Duskhaven. He began writing about the Families illustrious past and it's early founding members that existed in king Thoradin's time, writing in detail about how they were distantly related to the King by marriage. He will like that. He thought.
The lords are especially proud if they have any relation to the great Thoradin.Him, he had no great connections save for a very thin relation to a minor noble in Lordaeron. His family were mainly merchants, well off enough to afford a decent home in the capital. One that he left when he was old enough, to make himself some gold as a scholar. He was writing about how the Duskglen's played an important role in driving the troll's off in the Arathi highlands, when a knock came from his door, short and sharp. He swiftly rose, leaving his work to settle as he opened the door. He grasped the handle, and pulled. The door opened to reveal a figure, and he immediately became flushed and distorted when he saw who it was.
It was Jaina.
The slender, dark eyed girl stood in the doorway as her brown hair gleamed in the dim light of the sun that was re-emerging from the clouds like a skulking weasel that didn't want to be noticed. Anduin immediately became uncomfortable. "um- er... hello." he managed.
Jaina smiled. "Anduin. Could you... help me out? my family is in a bit of a problem." she said uncomfortably. Clearly she was not used to this.
"O - of course!" Anduin managed again.
"My brother, well, he's in a bad way. He was apprehended by that toff, Jamerson's boys, and now they won't let him go. You have a way with words, and they might think your important. Could you help us?" She was almost pleading, and Anduin couldn't refuse. He had known Jaina for a while, since she was educated in Gilneas city with him, and she saw him as a close friend, and so did he, but his uncomfortable nature around her made it quite obvious that he wanted something... more fulfilling. He sighed as he pulled on his raincoat and hat, making an effort to dress in his finest clothes, which didn't make sense, unless Jaina was involved of course. He was uneasy saddling his horse ; Nightbane, but he calmed it with a soft pat on the head. Jaina had walked, so she climbed on behind him and swung her arms around him, thinking nothing of it. Whereas Anduin developed that "Strange tingly feeling" that he got whenever she touched him. His cheeks had grown red, and he made sure not to turn so she didn't notice as he asked her where they were going.
"Goldenglow house" she said, and he nodded and rode off towards his destination. He had never liked the Jamerson family, due to their nature of thuggery and low cunning. They were an impoverished noble family who tried to collect money by acting as loan sharks, asking for a king's ransom when the borrower had only been lent a paltry sum. Fortunately, everyone here seemed to think he was some sort of noble, due to his clothing and home, and apparent wealth. Anduin didn't mind keeping up that illusion, and he certainly cast it as he rode towards Goldenglow house.
Anduin dismounted and placed a hand on his rapier, trying to appear confident while Jaina stayed out of sight. He approached the thug, and with a stern voice he said ; "You there, what are you doing? I have been informed that you are keeping a man of the Lochmoore in this house, and I demand that you bring him out now!"
The thug shrugged. "Why?"
That caught Anduin of guard. but he reminded himself of that time when he was performing that play as king Genn, and resumed his authoritative tone.
"The Lord Godfrey has shown... special interest in the man" He knew the Jamersons answered to Godfrey, and he tried to be as genuine as possible.
The thug squinted, then raised his eyebrows. "Right away sir!" he replied, hastily, and Anduin allowed himself a smile as the thug fetched out what he presumed to be Jaina's brother, tied up in fetters. He tossed the thug a silver crown and tipped his hat. "The Lord Godfrey will be most pleased" he said, in his most sinister voice, and rode to where Jaina was hiding in a bush about 40 meters away. "Is it him?" she said, almost tearfully, undoing the fetters and taking of the mask. She hugged him tightly while anduin stood, flushed. "Oh Aenas we were so worried! Promise me you will never do that again!" she cradled his head as he looked around groggily. She turned to him suddenly, kissing him on the cheek which made him blush even more. "How can I ever repay you?" there were a lot of things Anduin could have said, but he simply stammered. "I-I - errm, Uhh..." as she hugged him, and he rode them back to Duskhaven with Jaina and her brother on his horse. He had no time for books or his project that night, and after a quick hug goodbye, he collapsed into his bead, his mind swimming with thoughts of Jaina.
