    Icon3 Volcano battles

I wonder in the oringinal Rtw Extreme weather did not really affect nearby battles except for rain and I think snow but what if a Volcano erupted and soot rained onto the battlefield what would the effects be like.

The odds of a volcano erupting at the time of a battle occurring would have been so slim that I personally think it would be wasted dev time...

Would they even have fought in such conditions?

I havint had a erupting volcano but if you had a battle near a volcano in RTW you could see smoke billowing out of the top. Was kinda cool =)

That was rather cool, and there were a fair few volcanic eruptions in those times. If it's worth adding back in then please give us a smoke cloud

Did any battle happen near a volcano? I don't know, so please inform me if any. Even eruptions at Etna and Vesuvius were during peace time.

Oh, and I absolutely love Horrible Histories series!

Yes, Spartacus fought a battle on the slopes of Vesuvius I believe.

Although Vesuvius back then did not have the large cone that it has now, just the somma caldera (the part that gives it its "humped-back" appearance.") The cone formed after the 79AD eruption.

I would retreat all my men so I wouldn't lose my army to lava.

Not that close lol But the soot from an eruption probably travels pretty far especially on an Island if you have a town that an army was seiging and the eruption came a turn before the battle came.

If a volcano erupted both armies would probably avoid combat because of the extreme conditions and risk of staying involved. There should however be campaign map events like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, storms etc.

This is exactly what should happen, perhaps they could make those parts of the map unpassable for 2 or 3 turns for the volcano to clear and so on.

    Aliens could be fine, too.

Of course, they would land into the volcano and then come out of it, since aliens are immune to lava (duh).

And then with the phalanx, you would have to keep away the zerg from your general to help him escaping.

But then a giant snake would come out of the sand and eat the general.

That would happen only if the aliens would have sent a diplomat to the monsters of the underworld, within the previous turn.

Diplomacy would be a serious issue in Rome 2, don't forget that.

I like to add to this that CA can add different weathers on the battlefield. This already was in TW titles, but I would love a real heavy rain and thunders hitting hard in the background, so it sounds like something. Heavy rain with wind maybe, and see how soldiers move slow as the heavy rain and wind hitting their armor.

I remember volcano eruption damaging my army near it on the campaign map, even killing a General sometimes.
American, French, Israeli and British government's ILLEGAL aggression against the Syrian people, without any proof for chemical attacks in Douma, and without waiting for OPCW to conduct their investigation..
Sons of *******, leave that poor, war torn country in peace.
If you are a citizen of one of these countries, then DO NOT ask any help from me on these forums, since, in protest against this aggression by your governments, I do not provide assistance/help anymore.
Let Syria be finally in peace.

A video of false chemical attack in Douma, Syria, which led to Western illegal attacks.

How many volcanoes were present in RTW? I have only encountered one at Sicily, not any other.

Can you lose men to volcanoes in RTW if they are present in that province? I have lost men to floods, earthquakes, storms and plague. But never to volcanoes (haven't gone into this situation even after years of playing).

Ancient world was really dangerous, because mother earth was angry and constantly tried to throw people out often.

Well, it looks like someone didn't read the local weather forecast for the day. When it reads "sporadic showers of flaming rocks" one should put maximum distance between his army and said place.
