80's Music

It's a Thriller to me that The Arts didn't have an 80's music thread yet. So please get out your cassette tapes and your vinyl records - and let's rock.

All genres are accepted here. The only requirement is that it must have been made from January 1st, 1980 - December 31st, 1989.

Then there is queen, the police, david bowie, public enemy etc. 80s was awesome. Much better than today.

The early 80s was dominated by the British, but I think the Aussies contributed as well:

Yes the 80s were awesome. The pop music mostly sucked as in any era but there were a lot of good bands.

I hate todays bands how they all either bash their instruments or strike them in unison and sing in purposely douchbag hipster voices. Or the previous gen garbage like Blink 182 and their ripoffs. Its hard to find bands that actually try to make real compositions rather than repetitious garbage, notice how these bands don't repeat the same lyrics and chorus over and over and over again adinfitum. Went to some hipster concert where thats all the bands did, strick their instruments in direct unison, and repeat the same 5 or 6 times and that was a song. I forget what the band was.

I still can't fathom how such post-punk goodies gave rise to the horrible genre that is Goth Rock/Metal

but.... they are goth rock...

They're cool though, I like Sisters of Mercy and The Birthday Party a lot (prefer The Bad Seeds though)

Early Goth is pretty much indistinguishable from their post-punk inspirations, and I love most of it.
But it's the later Goth music I really, really don't like, the kind that transformed into the modern stuff like ing Within Temptation
