Kingdoms/Third Age Battle Crash Tech Help

Hey everyone--I posted a thread in the Third Age help section explaining my issues (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=556879). I believed them to be only related to TATW, but upon suggestion that I check if Kingdoms battles work, I found out they did not. Every battle in a campaign crashes on the loading screen, it's only successfully worked 3 times and there seemed to be no rhyme or reason to it.

I have a physical M2TW, physical Kingdoms, and for TATW all the proper updates and usual fixes. As I said, I thought it was an issue with TA, but since Kingdoms crashes as well, there must be some deeper issue with my Kingdoms game.

I've had it since it came out and it's worked fine on past computers, I only just reinstalled all of it to try out Third Age. Everything but battle maps from the campaign map work, including custom battles form the main menu. Anybody have solutions out there? Thanks!

Post your dxdiag. No time to be guessing.

How about vanilla battles while we're at it?

One thing to mention is that the diag is only counting the integrated intel chip as my display device, but I have a dedicated nVIDIA card (which shows up in the system devices section) that is used to run the game (by selecting the kingdoms.exe in NVIDIA's control panel and telling it to only use the nVIDIA card. I do this for every game, otherwise the underpowered Intel card is used). Even when I globally forced it on, the diag only detected the integrated card, so take note of that if its effecting the diag results and tell me if there's something I can do to fix it.

Fox example, I see it says I have old drivers for that card, but my nVIDIA card has had updated ones that don't show up in the diag. I'm assuming those are important for you to see...

In Nvidia Control Panel, set the game settings to maximum performance. It's either set on autodetect or something similar.

www.realtek.com.tw and update your year old High Definition Audio codecs.

If you still can't or the game fubar, uninstall Daemon tolls and its virtual drives as SecuRom will have bit you.

Ok, thanks. NV contol panel doesn't have an overall setting towards either performance or quality like control panels I've had in the past had, but it does have a power management mode option that has been on adaptive, so I'll set it to max-performance.

Updating my sounds drivers, will let you know what happens.

NVP > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Setting, Program tab > if kingdoms.exe is not listed, add it.

That I know, I was saying that's what I do for each game to ensure it's using the nVIDIA card, because the global setting is the intel card so that the computers not constantly trying harder to use the nVIDIA card for everything (fan always revvs and stops when nVIDIA card is global setting).

Going to try Kingdoms out now with new sound drivers and the max performance setting on aaand...it still crashed. Nothing changed, same deal.

Lower your graphics settings, maybe 1280 x 1024 or 1024 x 768 monitor resolution with no eyecandy for a start. The 550M is not that good a 3D graphics chip.

I tried playing on all low settings in TATW and Kingdoms, no luck. It crashes on 1024x768 and everything on low. Also side note on its power; the 550M has had no trouble running any contemporary game (save the Witcher 2, which is a monster) on all full settings, so I don't think it's to do with a lack of power. Shogun 2, Skyrim, etc all run smoothly on native resolution with the highest settings. Is there anything else it could be?

Can you fight a battle in vanilla as in medieval2.exe?

Unfortunately I'm not at home right now, and my Kingdoms disc is in my computer and not my M2TW disc. I'll check when I get home, but, prior to installing Kingdoms or TATW, everything in M2TW was working fine. I had been playing it for a few days with no issues, so unless installing the rest of that stuff somehow ruined the initial game, I expect it works.

Find out first. Kingdoms does use about 25% more power than Medieval2 but CA will never own up to it.

Ok, well, Medieval 2 crashes on launch. 4 attempts, 4 crashes.

So...now I'm just completely confused.

Time for complete, clean reinstall if Medieval2 crashes on launch.

Alrighty then! Any idea where the error would be if M2 worked prior to Kingdoms/Third Age install? Have to figure one of the steps for fixing Third Age ruined all 3 of them...trying the same steps might just crash it all. But I'll see if Kingdoms and M2 run on their own before doing anything with Third Age, because then we'll know where the trouble is.

Uninstall Daemon tools first and delete its virtual drives. SecuRom can play games like this.

Okay, fresh installs and M2TW and Kingdoms and they both operate perfectly, as they should. Battles and all. I wish I had checked if Kingdoms worked last time before I tried Third Age. Because now I don't know if 1. Kingdoms was always screwed up and that's why Third Age didn't work, or if 2. Kingdoms worked fine until I started messing with the Third Age to get it to work properly.

Would you suggest I assume TATW won't work properly and so go through all the steps to make TATW work that I mentioned I tried in my previous thread, or just install it and see if it works without messing with everything? Because once you get out of order (ie, installing third age before disabling UAC) things can get messy. I must say, I feel like the install is properly done with Kingdoms this time and the issue was with the last install.

Third Age is in its own mod folder and does not touch the other files. If it does not work, and the Kingsoms ones still do after you install Third Age, back to their forum and link this thread when you do.
