Wow! Great tutorial!
Wow! Great tutorial!
yeah i made my own skin, i saved it right, i followed everything in the tut but when i launch my bi i get the start up load screen like the credits etc but then the game just closes on me what do i do?
Do you have show-err on the target line of your BI exe.
"C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW-BI.exe" -show_err
That should give you an error msg when the game quits out.
no nothing happens then, i just get up the command pannel
Hmm, post up the changes you made to the edu and dmb, there must be a mistake in there somewhere.
ermm..not sure what that means as u can tell i'm a noobie but basically i unpacked it as publius posted the tut (i think) downloaded all plugins, changed the skin (i used the one you did in first one) i saved it correctly launched game and that is what happened, have i missed anything out?
If all you did is follow the tutorial then it should work fine, but as your getting a CTD you must have done something else. Are you sure you only edited an existing unit, and saved it correctly?
yeah, i'm postotive but does it matter which version it is? like 1.6 or something
No it doesn't matter. The tutorial doesn't change any files that would crash the game, so I'm really a bit stuck as to what you did that's causing it.
i'm going to try re-installing then launch game see if i still have problem
oke well i made this part for a unit card
pixel dimensions : width 160 pixels
height 251 pixels
document size : width 5.64 cm
height 8.85 cm
resolution 72 pixels/inch
i saved this to the ui folder under the name it should be but when i start my custom game and look at the units card it still is the old one. is this becous its not possible to just use a picture? ore did i do some thing wrong?
i goth it working only now my picture looks to big and some text things where lost in the unit card how do i fix this is there some width an height you need to follow?

Did you save it as a tga, same as the others?
Best thing to do is make a copy of an existing card and re-name it..
Halie, i have a problem, even with the photoshop plugins it STILL says its a wrong document, its CS3 10 full version, i got trial then bought the full of there website and entered serial, but its still not working, its stupid, any ideas ? it should work, and i cant edit tga.dds files![]()
ok i finally figured it out, i was missing the dds viewer thing, thanks for this tutorial halie, but the game only managed to read the shield texture methinks, ill have to rework at it, someday ill be as good as you!

To mod RTW textures you need to unpack them first, they're in data/packs the instructions should come with the pak extractor..The other tool (nvidia) allows you to save edited textures since PS doesn't recognise the tga.dds file type that RTW textures are saved as. Infran view allows you to view RTW textures as thumbnails in windows..
Oh, thnks dude, but I think I'm in the wrong place coz i only have medieval 2 total war and not rome total war. Sorry but where is the section where I can learn the basics for modding medieval 2 total war?
hehe, no worries, look in the MTW2 workshop..
