Would you apply them on a 3d model yourself? How do you keep the measures so as not to stretch a texture on a 3d model. I tried to dress one of your 300 WoS unit with an Age of Hellas texture. The result was ununderstandable. I realise it must have been different 3d models involved...
Right now I'm recoloring Alexander. It's really fun, especialy with your "shadow" instructions. It prevents the colors from appearing blunt. Some times I need to zoom real close and use the 1 pixel paint brush to get some thin lines.
Do tell, is there an undo command? like ctrl+z or something. Some times I make segments and paint before I make a layer and I have to start over.

I edited my own models, the UV maps are different and I think AoH models are all 256x256...

    In photo=shop, I think ctrl+z works once then ctrl+alt+z, I think I have mine set for 50 undo's...

I did one for banners and buttons, it's here somewhere, and one for bone weighting models. I think I did one for making unit cards as well but it might be in someone else's thread. I've probably done other mini tutorials but again they'll be in other peoples threads..

I should have specified... More tips on shading and coloring (if any) - in a tutorial fashion! I did some for medieval 2 and they look great.

Hello Halie Satanus. I have some more questions, if you don't mind. What is it that determines the relation between a texture and a 3d model? I mean, when making new texture, do you know beforehand the 3d models' measurements/dimentions or something? I don't if you understand what I'm trying to say - I'm not sure I'm expressing myself properly... Is their compatibility in dimention defined in the 2d or 3d tool? (photoshop, 3dsmax, milkshape, etc.). Thank you.

    Quick answer 3d Max.

If you're editing the vanilla textures then obviously the layout is already determined. However if you're using 3d max you can reorganise the layout to suit your specifics buy editing the 'UV' map of the model. Have a look through the tutorials for UV map editing..

Hello Mr. Satan! - oh that's dragonball! More questions for the master: How can I keep the reflections or shining on clothes and armor while painting on them? For now, I reduce the opacity. But can I have reflections and full color at the same time? Some colors are just too blunt - like blue. When I use it I
see black pixels appearing until the whole painting is black. Once I reduce the opacity to 90% I can see blue again. Always obliged!

Not sure what you mean. The game has gloss files which work as reflections on metal. I explained gloss files in the tutorial (section 6).. I'd need to see an image of what you're doing to understand..

When I paint, say a helmet, the reflection or gloss as you say is covered and cannot be seen. If I reduce the opacity to 90% the color starts to dissolve and I can see the reflection again but with most of my color implemented. I'll take a look at your tutorial as you say. I've never touched the game's gloss files.

As a rule I never bothered with gloss files either, to time consuming. Skinning is really about trial and error at first until you work out how to get the results you want.

Your tutorial made me see the difference between gloss and reflection. Turns out I was looking for gloss. Some helmets in some mods have this shining that can be seen as a unit moves it's head around. Gloss afterall.

Halie - how many questions can you take? - How can I save a piece of texture (say a part of chain mail) and use it on another separate one (replace scale mail with chain mail)? I can't find the right options. Thank you.

I tended to pull a marquee (box) around the parts I wanted to copy and just drag them across from one to the other using the move tool.

Hi again. I'm trying to cut round a shield from it's background, know what I mean? Thing is I cannot re-shape it when I transfer it onto another texture, and if I transfer it as a whole, it's not a round object but a square one. you know how shields come in large number in one screenshot. How can I cut a round one out and manipulate it so as to replace another shield on a separate texture? Thanks (as always).

    If I understand you right..

Make a blank layer on top of the shield and then size the paint brush to the size of the shield and fill in a dot on top. Select the dot. That gives you a marquee the correct size of the shield which you can now move..

Or use the magic wand to get rid of the background..

Well, I just drag my shield image and drop it onto a photoshop open texture, and I can resize it. It's those edges that get in the way.

Yeah much easier with magic wand and you can hold shift to cut some unwanted selection, so that it perfectly fits on the desired area. More easier if the background is comprised of singular RGB or similar RGB values.
