Default Battle Crashes (Have tried the usual fixes)

Hey everyone. I know this is a common issue, and I've looked around pretty extensively to find a solution, but all of the things I've done have not fixed it. My game crashes on the loading screen going into a battle, having worked just once so far, and it's quite frustrating. So far, I have:

    Deleted the 2 geography files
    Deleted the map.rwm files
    Turned Auto Daylight Savings off
Deleted the M2TW Virtual Store Folder
Reinstalled TATW (Install order: Pysical M2TW->physical kingdoms->kingdoms patch->TATW->TATW patches)
    Disabled UAC for M2TW

Strangely, when I try to run as administrator (I realize this may not be necessary when disabling UAC) it won't launch and says it cannot find the kingdoms.exe, but only when I run as admin.

What else can I possibly do? I'm sort of at a loss now...those actions sum up pretty much everything I've read, and none of them have worked. I'm running Win 7 and pretty new hardware, which is probably more of an issue than not, and just started doing all of this today. I've played every TW game for years and finally wanted to go back and try this mod! If anybody has any solutions, please shoot them my way. Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to the forums! As I can see from your installation order, u have first installed TATW, and AFTER that disabled UAC for M2TW. If this is true, now when u have UAC disabled, reinstall TATW once more (be sure to manualy delete Third Age 3 folder in SEGA\M2TW\mods AFTER uninstallation). And look at the installation path, wrong one is usually making errors. And just for the record, instead disabling UAC, u can do this, go to section How to fix it and apply step 3 http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?p=8287059#post8287059.

And then try reinstalling TATW( u don`t need to reinstall M2TW and Kingdoms). And be sure to manualy delete Third Age 3 folder in C\..\SEGA\M2TW\mods, AFTER uninstallation.

    Hey, thanks for helping out.

I don't think the order I put is actually the order I tried them in, though it's pretty close. I think I disabled UAC (I did do it the way you linked to, not just turning the entire thing off) after I reinstalled. I may have deleted virtualstore after I reinstalled, but everything else I did before it. I suppose that could mess it up as well, would you just recommend checking all of those things are done again to be sure before trying another uninstall/install as my best bet?

It's frustrating, I got my friend to try it after I already had it running, and he only downloaded it way after I started trying to resolve these issues and his is playing fine. He has the Steam version, and his battles work without a hitch. I love the mod, and just want to be able to go on the battle map!

Also of note is that custom battles will run when the battles on a campaign map will not. I haven't encountered the issue by testing it on a single player custom battle, only when I'm in the middle of a campaign. If that means anything, there ya go.

Have u edited any files in TATW? And try to see are there two descr_geography_new files in M2TW\data, if there are any, delete them. And to be sure, u have disabled daylight savings like this http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...5#post11861075

I did indeed do both of those things, to no avail. Trying a reinstall of TATW now that I'm 100% sure everything suggested is done before the install. Hoping it works, not sure what I can try if it does not. I'll keep you posted.

1 more thing: do I need to bother installing patch 3.1 if I'm just going to install 3.2 right after? Does 3.2 include everything in 3.1? Could that have been an issue with the crashes, possibly?

Yes, I think you need 3.1 patch before installing 3.2.

Ok, thanks! That's what I had done thus far, but I figured I should ask in case that was ruining my install somehow. Installing all done, lets see how this goes.

Also: are any graphical options turned on known to crash the game in battles? I play with everything all the way on high, which m computer is more than capable of doing, but is there some sort of compatibility issues with, say, vsync, AA, or anything?

Not that I know of, but you should try lowering some options just to test it.

Ugh, no go. It gave me false hope by getting to the end of the loading bar, and then crashed anyway. I would really love to know what's wrong and fix it, is there anything else I could do?

Can you test if regular M2TW Kingdoms works without any problems?

Some progress: I changed all the graphical settings to low and then 2/3 times the games didn't crash. I attacked a random rebel army twice, and it loaded successfully both times. But the 3rd time I reloaded it and instead sieged a city, and it crashed on loading. Doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to it, as far as I can tell...

Well, that's interesting. If I go through the kingdoms.exe, it crashes on startup every time. If I go to the M2TW launcher and choose Crusades (the expansion I chose to install to play TATW), it launched fine.

But, regardless of that, actually, battles crash in kingdoms apparently, too! I started a campaign as Antioch, attacked a rebel city, and it crashed on load. Well, that's not good, but I guess it means something isn't inherently wrong with TATW, but maybe Kingdoms?

Well, I wouldn't say something is wrong with Kingdoms, but rather I suspect there is some communication problem between your computer hardware/drivers and M2TW. Make a thread in the M2TW Technical Help forum, and they will help you diagnose what might be causing the problem.

Alright I posted one there, thanks! Hopefully this gets figured out, I eventually may just buy the gold steam edition since it's more stable if I can't get it to work...
