CD Issues

Hello!

I am a veteran M2TW player and have recently had my system upgraded to Windows 7 (32 bits). I tried to re-install the game, but the PC would simply not read the CD - it doesn't recognize there is one in the drive. I have tested other CDs and it worked, and I have also run M2TW on my laptop smoothingly.

I need your help.

Instead of the autorun feature, have you tried the setup.exe on the disc?

Is the optical drive in your desktop a BluRay player? If memory serves those drives have caused problems with disc installs of M2 since inception. You may try to update the drivers or firmware for your drive - that may solve your problems. What brand and model DVD drive do you have? Good luck!

I can't access the CD's contents.

I have already played M2TW in this computer, although it was on XP.

That doesn't quite answer my question. I'd like to know if you have a Blu-Ray player. That has been a cause of problems in the past. When you upgraded your system did you install a new optical drive? If so - have you made sure to install the latest drivers?

Could you give us your DxDiag log please? Since we're partially dealing with hardware it would be best to know what you have. Good luck!

My computer has only one account, so I guess yes, but this could be of a meaning which escapes me.

I've only upgraded the operational system from XP to Windows 7. I don't really know whether the thing is normal or Blu-Ray. Is there any way to check it?

How do I do this?

What is the brand and model of your computer if prebuilt?

Please follow the following instructions - it will satisfy both irishron and my own questions.

DxDiag is easy to run if you have any knowledge of Windows. From the Start button choose 'Run...' and type in 'dxdiag'. This is the DirectX diagnostic program. Let it run and then chose the option at the bottom to "Save All Information...", save it to the Desktop, and then copy and paste the output here on the forum. Please wrap the output in Spoiler tags to reduce page crawl. Good luck!

Do you mean literally all of them (DRIVER/BIOS/MANUAL/UTILITY) or just the things in the driver section?

Drivers Win7 64bit should be enough but all the drivers listed under Win 7 64bit.

I thought my system was 32 bits, isn't it? I do have a System32, not a 64.

You are running a 64-bit machine based solely on looking at your OS. If you're updating drivers please keep that in mind - always look for the 64-bit Win7 drivers above all else. Good luck!

EDIT: Did you build this system yourself? Is it a desktop or a laptop? And lastly - is your optical drive an external drive? Good luck!

No, desktop, I've no idea (but the driver is inside of the computer)

Okay, I have a new information now. Turns out that the driver did manage to recognize the CD and I was able to open the folder and launch the .exe. However, when I tried, a screen popped up and said something along the lines that my Internet security configurations impossbilited the opening of the .exe. Does this make any sense to you?

Internet connection has nothing to do with the dvd.

At a store in Germany (I live in Brazil).

BTW, Age of Empires II isn't working either, although the Conquerors Expansion runs.
