Um, anybody who thinks Google is some sort of slavish appeaser of the entertainment industry has a very narrow experience of the matter. Google's blog announcement makes it clear the change is so that people find the most legitimate content available - i.e. if you search for a music video, a video posted by the artist themselves will now be higher in the rankings.

Importantly, Google isn't filtering results. Merely adjusting how they are ranked.

High rates of removal notices are likely to drop a site down in the search results, which Google says “should help users find legitimate, quality sources of content more easily.”

They're not hiding anything. They're pushing official sources up the rankings because these are likely to be more relevant. More relevancy probably means more customer satisfaction, not less.
