Most likely, every TW game is available as disc, too![]()
So why should Rome II not be ?!
The game will most likely be sold in stores on disc, I see no reason why not. The big question is will all copies force you onto Steam so you still need to go Online and be forced to download some crap just to play it? Then remain stuck on Steam forever again?
I appeal to CA\SEGA to make optional Steam-Free versions of RTW2 as explained constantly in my sig.
I agree with you. Will RTW2 be in stores, because I dont want another steam bought game. I dont want to go out, buy a visa card then buy the game and wait 2 hours for it to download, I just need to know!!!!!!!
I don't like buying the game like that.
Once I saved a lot of money to buy Napoleon Total War(it cost 40 Euros here) and it was on two discs. When I came home I inserted the disc and downloaded the game from the net, but someone from my country stolen my account and I couldn't play NTW any more.
What is even more sadder is that I didn't even had the opportunity to play it. I tried everything I can to retrieve it and I had so many complications. At the end I threw it into the garbage.
So I hate this, I just want the games to be as they were back then. I just want them to be on my dvd, so that they install from my dvd and not that I need to download them from the net when I place my dvd in.
This is one of the reasons why I didn't bought SH II and I will not buy Rome II.
You can install the game from the CD, there's just a command to do it. Otherwise why would you have the discs? They have all the information needed for install from the disc but for whatever reason I think steam automatically starts downloading, however you can cancel it and just install via DVD as usual, saving you hours of installation time.![]()
Yes even if you need use SteamWill RTW2 be in stores???(i hope it will not be necessary for LAN, if not people live not in big city will have serious problem to play in lan if he have not a good connection)

I'm just saying because for some reason, I never saw Shogun 2 in any store but steam
No, when you place the dvd in the game downloads from the net, that is how it was with my NTW.You can install the game from the CD, there's just a command to do it. Otherwise why would you have the discs?
And I couldn't cancel that.

Yeah as MasterBigAb said you can cancel it and install from the disc by using a code. Just use this next time. It's a bit of a nuisance to do, but it works, I've done it since ETW.

Now this I did not know! Does this mean I can delete Shogun and re-install it without the automatic patches that comes with steam authentication. There were a few unwanted updates that ****ed me off.
Is there any way we can select the updates we want from steam? BTW, this was good info and I'm saving this page in my favorites for future reference.
Didn't know that, damnYes it tries doing that automatically, but you can chancel that and let it be installed from your disc (was so since ETW)
Thank you anyway !
I really don't mind Steam. I honestly don't see why so many people don't like it-though I have stable internet so I don't really suffer.
It's funny because you say you don't understand why people doesn't like Steam, and then you answer that question just after that.
You like Steam because you have a good, reliable internet connection. Try to use it without that, and you won't like Steam that much.
The thing with Steam is that it is great when it works. But it gets quickly really bad when it doesn't.
The offline mode is a mess, and doesn't seem to work in a rather large number of case.
If for some reason you have your account banned/hacked, it's a lot of pain to get it back, if you can have it back at all.
Try downloading a 20GB game when you're on dial-up, or just have a 10GB/month data cap. It's where the retail version comes handy, but then you often have multi-GB patch to download.
For developers (and gamers too), Steam has a lot of useful features, and TW is now way too much integrated with Steam that they can't really pull out of it : multiplayer, patchs, DLC, ...
That's why your not going to see a Steam-free TW game anytime soon.

Wise words, but I`ll focus on the above.
I think Steam tries to discourage Offline play by making Offline play very uncomfortable. I refuse to play my SP campaign Online. Why should I? I want as few processes taking up my cpus as possible. I even disconnect from the net every time to make sure I`m Offline. However, Steam does not like you doing it, doing all sorts of crap to put you off, and I think if they could get away with it, they`d make it impossible to play Offline.
It`s the whole force you to use their utility that I don`t want or need. I just want to play the game- OFFLINE. I paid for it, dammit!
Now even Windows Live which used to allow Offline play easily has joined Steam in the business of discouraging Offline play. Live is only slightly better than Stean in that it will actually allow you to play and see the game YOU PAID for... except now you can`t save until you go Online first. After that it`s a pain to do. A recent game I bought on Windows live took me near 2 hours to finally figure out how to play the thing Offline and Save. It just happened not to mention that I needed to install an additional Windows Client that was separate from the main one I`d already installed with the program!
This is why I check very careful all games now. It`s also why I don`t buy games on release any more and most i`ll wait until they`re in the bargain bin at £5 before buying. It`s also why I don`t buy games unless I really, really would like to play it and am 90% sure it`ll be a keeper. There is only ONE game i`m interested in which is the upcoming Xcom Enemy unknown, I played the original and loved it... But now, I won`t buy it on release and may never buy it, if it`s going to force Steam or some other draconian crap on me, as it probably will.
This is a far cry from the days when I would buy even a crappy £30 game on release day.![]()

Accordingly to a census made in my country at the end of the last year, around 23,7% of the population has access to internet. Of that only a fraction is 1 mb bandwidth, which in practice is never truly 1 mb. Pit that against the 31.5% that do have computers and you get a pretty quick image of lots of people with pc's but no internet. I know plenty of people with computers, good computers capable of running say shogun 2 but that have no access to internet thanks to our lousy infrastructure, in the best of the cases they can buy a mobile modem, something akin to a pen drive that allows you to surf if you connect using a gsm chip, just like using a cellphone as modem in the old days. That only gives a "56k branded" connection that in practice is even lower.. so yeah I know we have some more pressing matters in my country, but I know Steam is not working for everyone that wants to be a gamer here.
