    Default The Roman name(s)

    Hey guys,

I was going through all those posts of speculations about TW:R2, and there are some nice proposals I would really like to see in TW:R2. Now, I also have a speculation I would like to share with you...
I really like playing the Romans, and now more than ever since there going to be one faction. But yet there are some things I did hate/miss in TW:R1. For example just the fact that there were 3 (or 4) Roman factions in TW:R1. Also were the senate missions quite annoying after a while, e.g. blocking a port for several times...

But what I really missed, and what I would really like to see in TW:R2, since I liked to play TW:R1 in detail (building my empire, manage it, only accepting good mariages, etc etc etc), are realistic names for the Romans... What do you guys expect from this? Will there be realistic Roman names?

(I hope this won't be explained too difficult, as my english isn't perfect.)
A Roman name comprised 3 parts (e.g.): Marcus (praenomen) Aemilius (nomen) Lepidus (cognomen).
So if you would play the Romans and your FL's name is for example Julius, all your sons would also get this nomen... Though your cognomen can change through the years because of (name)changes in your family. Also, in Roman Times you could get something like this: Publius Cornelius Scipio Aemilianus; which means that Publius was adopted into the family off Cornelii Scipii, but he was born an Aemilius. It happened sometimes because some men wouldn't lose their real name because of their mariage/adoption.
Next to that, you also have the name that was given to someone who was really victorious in his time (e.g. 'Augustus')... -Source.

But yeah, actually I really don't expect all this to be included in TW:R2. I just hope that they at least use the 'three names concept'... I would really like to see that!

Any opinions/remarks? And oh yeah, thanks for reading this; just another huge TW:R-fan...

The idea is very good in general and it is very interesting.

However I think that it is to detailed a bit and that CA won't go after that, or maybe they will, you never know with what will they surprise us in Rome II.

This is just one of many little features that makes the game interesting for me.

    Thanks for sharing the idea.

I don't see why all of that wouldn't be included. In fact I was expecting it to be like that, and still am.

Yes, I agree with you on that! I also like all those little features that make the game interesting
I hope that they at least use the three names in Rome II instead of the two names in Rome I...

Yeah let's hope so... Three names would be nice instead of two.

I see no reason not to do this. I mean, it's a pretty simple algorithm to implement. It's not like some sort of detailed system where each mule in a baggage supply train is tracked or some of the more extensive proposals for massively increased detail.

If your generals could also gain honorary titles from victories like "Africanus," "Germanicus," "Parthicus Maximus," etc, that would be a bonus.

Yes indeed, it isn't that hard I guess.
And yes, it would be totally cool to gain such honorary titles, but I guess that won't be introduced in Rome II? It seems to me that they won't think of such titles and probably they'll stick with "The Great", "The Honest", etc? I don't know, but it would be really cool if it's introduced though!

No, they just had a name and a family name... Or are you talking about the titles? If so; they had only titles like "The Mighty", "The Great", etc... I really hope this will be introduced in Rome II!
