Default How many of you believe in Alien Existance?

As the title says; How many of you believe in alien existance?

I myself believe it's impossible for there not to be intelligent life elsewhere - the universe is just too big. All of the top scientist's calculations of the likely hood of alien existance is based on the fact we think life requires water. What if it doesn't?

What do y'all think on the matter?

Alien life as in living organisms that exist outside of Planet Earth is quite the possibility not to say almost obvious(given the size of the universe).

Alien life as in Intelligent Social Animals that exist outside of Planet Earth and have developed a level of civilizatory structure that's similar or at least commensurable to the human one is slightly less possible but still possible.

Alien life as in UFOs that kidnapp and probe drunk hilibillies... LOL

I think it is ignorant to say we are alone we are just an ant in the universe. but on the other hand we never saw those green guys either or even a sigh. I'm a little in the middle

Agree with all of the above.
    Does beg the question though.
Our solar system is quite young in Universal terms. It’s made from the by-products of long extinct suns.
If intelligent life is common then most of it is a lot older than us, so why isn’t it already here?
It must be a personal issue. Are we that ugly unpopular smelly kid at school that no one likes?

Perhaps this intelligent life suffers from the same constraints imposed by the laws of physics as we do. Perhaps it has used it's intelligence to wipe itself out. Perhaps intelligence doesn't necessarily lead to interstellar travel. Perhaps our existance is utterly irrelevant to whatever other intelligent life there is. Perhaps it is on it's way right now. Perhaps it's so alien (hihi, puns) that we wouldn't even recognise it as life.
And finally, my personal favourite, perhaps it's already here.

No its an issue of distance. Even if there was a much older civilized life form in our galaxy it would take an exponentially greater level of technology to make traveling here to Sol system even remotely worthwhile. Other galaxies, forget about it. Unless they surpassed something like the speed of light the distance is far, far too great for any civilized, intelligent, technological life in any of the millions of other galaxies to be remotely possible. Add in the fact of the accelerating expansion of the universe and chances are pretty slim any alien life in another galaxy (even one much more advanced than ourselves) could make its way here.

I think the universe is probably teeming with life. Well, in the sense that 1 in a million stars having life on a planet would still mean the universe has billions of alien life forms.

I believe in the possibly. My feeling is that life will turn out to be relatively common. These are of course just beliefs and feelings. Life may be EXCEEDINGLY rare and there may only be a handful of planets with life or even, we may be the only planet with life.

This does nothing really to change anything on how I view the Universe.

This is an old one, but pure logic indicates that there HAS to be Alien life out there somewhere.

And not just some floaty tiny microscopic boring thing, but actual sentient beings in some kind of version of civilization. They`ll be very different to us with different morals, views, physical form, etc, but still be intelligent, sentient Beings either behind or further advanced than us.

There is no doubt in my mind.

Will we ever see\meet them within the next 1000 years? Doubtful, unless they find us first. Some say maybe we should be careful about that too.

This, among other things, has always bugged me. But there are several theories. Maybe we`re the first, maybe they just haven`t found us yet, maybe they just see us as too warlike, too peaceful, inferior, stupid, don`t like to mess with other nations, etc, etc...

    The list is endless.

    The list is endless.
    For example:

*Interstellar travel within a reasonable timeframe may be impossible.
*Extinction of a species occurs very frequently, and probably happens in more cases than a species expanding to other planets. There are probably more ruined civilizations out there than living ones.
*Maybe there are beings out there travelling the stars, but the universe is so fricking mind bogglingly enormous the chances of them finding us are almost nil. It's not like our TV and radiowaves have gone far enough into space to have anything but a near nil chance of having been noticed by aliens who can detect them.

Personally I don't think humanity will ever reach the stars. We'll become extinct. I think this is the same for alien creatures as well. They're there, but we'll never see them, unless we find some alien microbes in our own solar system.

I think that alien life exists in the universe. Has it ever visited the Earth? No, not likely at all (UFO freaks are typically crackpots). I find the idea of life in the water of Europa (a moon of Jupiter) to be interesting. While there is no evidence for it right now, the basis of the idea is not very implausible.

Based on the history of life on Earth, single-cell life forms are probably more common than multicellular life.

I want to believe in a paleo-Alien civilization which technology we can cannibalize like Mass Effect (except the Reapers ) ... not interested in anything else.

Do we really want Aliens to pick up our radio telecommunication signals ? Just image how many Gigabit of porn they might have watched and decided to not meet this depraved civilization.

Maybe they have different moral values? Heck not every historical human culture would have condemned porn.

Nevertheless, I doubt they'd find our porn appealing. Aliens I mean, not historical human cultures.

I would just take the time to say that I really wish there is no alien equivalent of Genghiz Khan thundering across the stars in a massive force demanding the submission of worlds.

(because I would like humanity to be the universe's equivalent of Mongol Hordes )

I find it illogical for Earth to be the only life sustaining planet in the universe. Further than that I dare not guess.

It makes sense that aliens exist somewhere.
I am also willing to entertain the possibility that aliens might have visited earth.
Out of all the events, witnessed by professional experienced pilots, there is a small chance one might be alien. Most will be military, balloons, and natural events, but its not impossible that one might be a spaceship.

I mean look at humans, blasting rockets into space, killing each other, build big things for no reason. If I was a little green bloke with weird stick things on my head, Earth could be a interesting way to amuse the kids for a couple of hours.
