    Default night seiges

    i found this info while looking at ME:2TW prices at amazon

    The new graphics and gameplay features all come together for the new night time sieges, with tens of thousands of soldiers on screen at once as the boiling oil and the flaming arrows create a sight to make Hollywood weep.
    it seems they are adding some new things to the night battles , this was found from one of the reveiws

    Awesome, but we have night battles, boiling oil, and flaming arrows now.

    Neither is this the dawn from the east, nor is a dragon flying above, nor are the gables of this hall aflame. Nay, mortal enemies approach in ready armour. Ravens are calling, wolves are howling, spear clashes and shield answers

    In one of the videos (I think it was a battle run by a German fellow) you can see some of the units carrying torches. The effect looks much better then Rome's and a bit more hmm, animated

    Certainly the 'tens of thousands' bit is an error of judgement(unless it was a mega custom battle, with a super computer running it), but the boiling oil part could look alot better than Rome's does!

    Default night battles

    I think we have a problem there with night battles. My personnal opinion is that they understate the meaning of it. let's take Scipio's first battle in North Africa where he surprised two separate enemy camps and won battle with no casualties (at least minimal), and all I get in TW Rome BI is A SIGHT... well that *******cks, I think we are facing yet another eye candy, with no real impact on the gameplay. *Attempt surprise night attack* that what I wanna see when clicking on the enemy force. but it is only my humble opinion which, I am sure, Smoke will certainly does not concur with. but I am with those of us who think that eye candy does not make a game to DA GAME

    I guess a night "surprise attack" would be a nice addition; you attack with a general that has a night fighter trait or something and you could have two options, like the options in an ambush;

    1) Your surprise attack failed, the enemy will be prepared - in this case you'd have the same battle as a night battle in RTW
    2) Your surprise attack succeeded, the enemy knows nothing about the attack - and you attack a CAMP (with tents) while all enemy soldiers are mixed up all over the camp and need to reform first. So your attack has some time to hack and slash while the enemy is running around, forming into units. :hmmm:

    That would actually be possible without a major problem, especially if we are content without the camp. This way the forts would have their meaning, too! Even if you attack the enemy can still reform while you are destroying the walls...

    EXACTLY! and I see no real obstructions to implement such features into the game. that is why I am against prioritizing of "eye candy develompent" by doing that CA AND others just fails to realize that it is good gameplay, good AI and various interresting and detailed features that make a game into the bestseller

    Not that it would matter much, but I'll post a thread about these night attacks in the official forums as well. At least it will be seen by CA. Hopefully.

    Yea i agree. night battles in rome have no purpose at all! That would be cool with features like ambushing.
