    Default Community Religion Poll Thread

Hi all. I'm not sure if something like this has already been posted, but I was interested in seeing everyone's religious backgroud to better understand the community here.

I am a practicing Catholic and have been so all my life. I recently chose to continue practicing my faith even though i sometimes disagree with certain stances the Church has adopted. (priests marrying, and contraceptives mainly)

please, participate in the poll and feel free to post anything about yourself relative to the goal of this thread.

Well I'm glad you disagree with the Pope's opinion on some things. It annoys me when people think that they have to agree with everything the Pope says without thinking.

A few weeks ago I would say I believe in god, but not a Christian God, but after being around the atheists here for so long I'm slowly becoming more and more atheist myself...

I'm not sure if something like this has already been posted

Agnostic all the way until I experience a spiritual event in my life that I wont be able to discount by thinking rationally. Nothing like that has happened in my life yet so, agnostic and nuetral I remain...

I voted for Practicing protestant. It makes the most sense to me. But I hope that someday all of us Christians will get over the minor theological differences that separate us as we all have common ground in Faith in Christ. Who has been my rock in times that I have been down.

It is hard for me to articulate how I feel about my faith, how can one explain the many feelings and emotions that one feels? How can one convey that to someone who may not understand? Faith in the protestant sense to me has always been an informed choice, in fact had something gone differently a few years ago I may be an Atheist today. But faith came to me and I decided to follow.

Can't you add it with your mod powers or is it just Praetors/Imperator that can do that?

@Matty_P: Take part in some existance of God topics. The Christians could do with some help.

No, I don't think mods can fool around with poll options. I think we can add one after the creation of a thread, but thats it.

Orthodoxy. As in people from either the Eastern or Oriental Orthodox Churches. Aka Greeks, Russians, Copts, Armenians, Assyrians, and many, many, more.

I assumed it was lumped in with catholicism, because they are so similar. Either that or the "other" option.
Or because it did not appear as a denomination in the US census or just as likely the CIA database thing.

sorry for the double post, but i will prove my faith to no one for any reason.

i do this for myself, not for others.

and religion is a topic that can only be dealt with via inquisitions, holy war, and genocide. its a subject people don't surrender until death.

    ...history shows us this.

Atheist. I simply see no logic in blind belief.

what i feel for my God isn't blind, in my opinion.

and more about my religious viewpoint: i practice weekly catholic mass and confession at least 4 times annually because i feel better doing so. perhaps there isn't a God, but that's not what i feel.

the universe is intricately complicated and the intrinsic value of these complexities justify, to me, the presense of some greater existence. also, all cultures of the world acknowledge the presence of a supreme/or higher deity. they can't all be wrong or merely express primative desires.

my faith, again, is for myself and my relationship with the God i believe in. i like to think of myself as tolerant of other's beliefs. however, if some group is not tolerant of my beliefs, i will be abrasive to them.

as far as aitheist go, i do tire of their self-righteous attitudes and their "but any modern thinking individual must concede that God doesn't exist" banter. if God doesn't exist, prove it.

the argument is a stalemate either way. I can't prove God's existence the same as an athiest cannot totally disprove His existence.

and Jesus was a real person...

That's what I thought. But it didn't prove to me the existance of a Christian God, just a higher power. And those atheists put up a compelling argument against this. And as I said, after being around them for so long...

also, all cultures of the world acknowledge the presence of a supreme/or higher deity. they can't all be wrong or merely express primative desires.
But those religions were born at a time when many things couldn't be answered by science. 'God' seemed the only answer to many mysteries.

and Jesus was a real person...
But in reality he was probably similar to those people who hold signs up shouting 'The end is nigh!' Probably.

Can I ask you a question? How did you become a christian? Were you taught that it was true from an early age or did you look at all the evidence for and against and come to your own conclusion?
