Default Game of thrones seven kingdoms (the MMO)

so the a preview is up and im suprised how old it looks. (I know it barely in alpha stat)

    http://gameofthronesmmo.com/

the animation looks a bit odd to be kind, and it seems that a lot of the models is placeholder items.
But I do hope its not going to fail or be a pay-to-win game.
and has anybody played their old titles, made by Bigpoint, becouse they look like crap!

I played bigpoints other game, BSG online and it sucked (to say the least). I doubt this will be very good. Dont get me wronge i would love a GOOD game of thrones mmo but when i look at seven kingdom all i see is a cash grab. If you want a good mmo play guild wars 2 when it comes out at the end of this month.

The stupid HBO Lannister armor is in it This game could be interesting if they would just take a more book friendly approach to it as the W:TW team has done.

    Son of Mars -

I am sorry buddy, but why the hell do you all hate the HBO's Lannister armor?

I personally think it looks very good and suitable for the Richest kingdom in westeros.

What does the book describe their armor as? I hear all this talk about the team here staying true to the book instead of the tv series but the team wont release ANY shots of lannister armor. If it turns out to be like the other groups and standard Medieval armor i will be sorely disappointed.

As i said, Lannisters are the richest house, they would have some pretty mean armor.

Not meaning to sound harsh here, just Very curious.

The reason you have not seen any lannister picks so far, is becuase they are working at one house at a time, starting with the starks and i think ending with the lannisters.(someone feel free to correct me if im wronge)

Toho summed up my dislike for it. It looks like someone who had a thing for samurai took gothic armor and combined it to make this. Also, the color scheme has a bit too much black for Lannister armor (i.e. their colors are gold and yellow). Also, the Lannisters were rich, but Tywin wasn't going to blow his house's cash on giving joe the peasant plate armor so even if it was in game you wouldn't be fielding too many of them. There is a submod out for the HBO stuff so perhaps they could reskin units in the HBO style which the main team cannot do due to copyright reasons and most of them just don't like what HBO has done. Hope I satiated your curiosity.

That armor looks like some eastern samurai weird fantasy mix. The lannisters in the books use the same equipment as the other houses- Mail and leather for the common soldiers, plate and mail for knights and nobles. Some lannister men-at-arms or household troops use helmets with lion crests, which would look more awesome than that ugly fantasy stuff.

And we have shown no lannister units so far because they haven`t been done yet.

Nah, each modeller & skinner usually has his own house to design, we work on several at the same time more or less. At the moment the process is pretty convoluted- One of our members can only modell, and that well, while another skins his models. Murf is the jack of all trades and toho used some of murfs models to create a base for other factions etc.

The lannisters will likely be done last, though. One of our old members, edric, would like to do them- But doesn`t have the time atm. Since the others are busy working on other factions we can afford to wait for him- And if he doesn`t find the time another will finish them once the others are finished.

Sounds kind of confusing. But whatever your guys plan is, it seems to be working. Keep up the good work and thank you for the info bro

Dont worry i understand It can be difficult not just getting but holding a mod team full time. The work you guys have already done is beyound amazing!

I am asking what the non HBO Lannister description is exactly?

Alot of people on here bag out the HBO version, which i am sure they would have shown to Martin during development and was approved. But no one is telling what the 'book' or lore version is of the armour?

    Could you Please enlighten me

The same as that of the other southern houses. A mottled mixture of mail, leather, brigandines, cloth and rare oddments of plate.

There is no grand, great unified "dress code" for soldiers. Levies have to use the equipment they have at home, if they are lucky their lord gives them some leather or old helmets, and have to scavenge their armor from the fallen.

Professional soldiers are equipped by the lords and at least have often some mail etc. but even for them there is no uniform- They get what the lord has available and have to scavenge missing pices from the fallen.

Only rich and important houses can equip some of their soldiers with something resembling an uniform. Like, the Lannister soldiers who used lion crested helmets, or the respective household guards of a faction.

That`s another reason why i hate the lannister armor in the series. (First, it doesn`t fit in the world and looks like some generic fantasy stuff, second PLATE ARMOR FOR NORMAL SOLDIERS?!) It makes one believe that some factions kept a huge standing army with organized equipment. But this wasn`t the case.

And martin stated that the books and the series should be viewed as two different entities.

Excuse me? Since when are helmets and some assorted other pieces of plate "rare"? Agree on the rest, though, although padding would be by far the most common form of non-metallic armor in a medieval army.

"Levies" are troops who serve part-time under an obligation of some sort. The lords themselves are levies too, from their liege's point of view. Either way, yes, most troops only have what they own... But that doesn't mean their gear is .

The majority of a late medieval feudal host (15th century - on which GRRM has based the armies, according to his list of source books, and I found little to contradict the time period) was composed of retainers of lords. Not a levee en masse system, not even close. Said retainers were troops whose allegiance lie with their lord, not the realm or anything, through some sort of contract or agreement. They could be paid, or they could just fight in return for the lord's favor during peacetime. No matter what the deal was, the majority were an early middle class of free, landowning peasants and minor gentry. It was pretty much standard for a man to own a polearm or a bow, a sword, a helmet, a padded jack as the minimum. Many of the gentry had horses and full armor of some kind. Sometimes lords would purchase pieces of equipment en masse to outfit their troops better, sometimes the men themselves were wealthy enough to afford good gear.
Only rich and important houses can equip some of their soldiers with something resembling an uniform. Like, the Lannister soldiers who used lion crested helmets, or the respective household guards of a faction.
Yes, rich and important houses, otherwise known as noble houses. Any noble who wasn't a retainer to another would supply his troops with a piece of cloth with his primary colors and his badge, or at least with badges themselves, for identification. The Lannisters are VERY rich and powerful, and thus it comes to me as no surprise that the majority of their army appears to be raised through sub-indenting other Lannisters.

Note that this doesn't mean their *gear* was uniform, only the general colors. And you said "something resembling a uniform".
That`s another reason why i hate the lannister armor in the series.
I hate it too - too identical and looks like .
(First, it doesn`t fit in the world and looks like some generic fantasy stuff, second PLATE ARMOR FOR NORMAL SOLDIERS?!)
Agree on the first, but not on the second. GRRM's world doesn't appear to have plate armor as something uber-rare and only worn by nobles. In fact, mercenary companies apparently have wagons full of munitions grade armor, so I don't see a reason to assume it's that uncommon. Most of the armored lancers can probably afford plate, and many of the minor gentry fighting on foot likely have it to varying degrees as well. Plate is not that expensive, really. Real world documents reveal that it was actually cheaper than mail.
It makes one believe that some factions kept a huge standing army with organized equipment. But this wasn`t the case.
No standing army =/= an army of conscripted peasants. No, no one has a standing army. But everyone keeps a retinue of trained troops ready to fight at short notice. Another important part of a retinue are sellswords hired for a campaign, instead of contracts for life - even more likely to have good equipment and lots of experience.

P.S. Read the post before attacking a strawman - I am not supporting HBO's version of the gear at all. I am addressing the team's stereotyped view of the dung ages.
