I don't want to turn this into flaming, he could have just read the wiki and watched the series. He missed out the more subtle points of the books- ie Dany can't control her dragons, she doesn't know for certain that caging them might make them weaker. And in the books it clearly states that Dany has no chance but to go into the Red Waste- it wasn't a stupid idea, seeing as her dragons were too weak to defend themselves.
In the books Dany doesn't threaten her way into Qarth either- she arrives in between chapters.

For the record, I watched the first two seasons and read the last three books. I was going to go back and read the first two, but then school started and I got busy.

Anyway, I'm sure Dany can control her dragons if she tries hard enough. She never really even makes an attempt at it. Aside, of course, from telling them to spew fire. The only guy who did that I can recall was that Dornish Prince. He goes in nervous, with no preparation or understanding of how dragons work, and only a vague idea of how to communicate with the dragons, and he almost gets one of them to follow him. Then he gets ambushed by the one he completely forgot about and he dies, but forget that bit.

If Dany tried a little harder, Drogon could've been her's. In fact at the end of Book 5 I think she's learning to control him just by actually doing with him and not locking her dragons in a pit after ignoring them for weeks.

It's brought up to her several times that it will. She goes over it in her head several times that dragons from the Dragon Pit were never as large as ones that had grown in the open. She knows pretty well.

She didn't have no choice or anything. The guy above me is right that there are a lot of outriders and if a single one finds them they're screwed, but still I'd rather take my bets making the short and not death filled journey to the city. The only thing in the Red Waste that they could hope to find is Qarth, and Ser Jorah says the only thing he really knows about Qarth is that the desert around them is called the desert of bones (or something like that) because every time they close their gates to an outsider the desert grows.

The real issue would be if her dragons didn't impress the Dothraki enough to make them follow her rather than force her to become a crone.

My Dragons are born. Will I go back to that holy Dothraki city (I forget what it's called) and use them to convince some Dothraki to join a make-shift Khalasar? that.
Wouldn't work, she's got 3 warriors, she would have been forced to join the old crones like all the other ex-Khaleesi's

Red Waste here I come! She doesn't even have a plan to get by the Red Waste. She just walks into it.
She does have a plan - to follow the comet. You might not think its much of a plan, but its still a plan. And it worked

Also I know there were like 20,000 Dothraki in her way or something, but she only has like 20 followers. She could sneak past that. Hell, safer bet than the Red Waste.
There are khalasars everywhere. They all have outriders. It only takes ONE outrider to find them, and they're all dead.

Always keep your foes confused. If they are never certain who you are or what you want, they cannot know what you are like to do next. Sometimes the best way to baffle them is to make moves that have no purpose, or even seem to work against you - Littlefinger

But the dragons aren't impressive at the beginning, they're puny little lizards. The reason the remnants of Drogo's Khalasar follow her isn't so much because of the dragons, but more how they were born. She is Daenyrs Stormborn The Unburnt. By the end of ADWD, the dragons are finally something to be reckoned with - physically imposing and able to join a battle.

I'm convinced we'll see a new Dany in TWOW. A harder, maybe even crueler Dany. After she's burned Khal Jhoqo alive and returned with his Khalasar.

I was rereading some of her chapters in the second book, and I was enraged by this tidbit ''He couldn't have had much honour, he betrayed his true King. She said this after learning of Eddard's death, who ''betrayed" his ''True King" after said King made a steak out of his father and strangled his brother, and said King's son kidnapped his sister. Why can't she face what sort of person her father was?

Maybe, but in the later books Barristan repeatedly tries to tell her the truth and she interrupts, stops or cuts him off.

Yea, basically she's never been told, and doesn't want to hear. For most of her life, all she knew about her family came through Viserys, and the relatives of deposed tyrants tend to have a different view of their family than the rest of the world (eg Saddam's daughter). Be interesting if she accepts Tyrion - he would be a great advisor for her, but he will utter a few home truths that she won't like. Jorah wants to get in her knickers too much to tell her the truth.

Dany is so idiotic! I mean does she think Lyanna fell in love with Rhaegar and ran of with him? That Rickard and Brandon Stark deserved to die for....Wanting justice for their kidnapped daughter/sister? How dare she say that Ned Stark has no honor when her father burned Lord Rickard instead of giving him a fair trail by combat?
And by the way, how do the Tagaryens have a better claim to e.g the North than the Starks? Or the Vale than the Arryns?
(Doesn't make any real sense to say that they are the "rightful" rulers of Westeros does it?)

Do you know she didn't? Because we don't really know *anything* about the Lyanna/Rhaegar relationship from their point of view. I'm guessing we'll find out though, probably through Bran.

Other than that, yeah, she's blind to the fact that Aerys was a crazy old physcopath who was fond of burning people alive just for the fun of it.

To be fair that probably is what really happened.

I don't think that she loved him at the beginning though maybe she fell in love with him after a while...

I'm quite sure she loved him in the end. Why else would she want Ned to raise Rhaegar's child?

You think she knows any of that? She just outright refuses to learn the truth.

Exactly! She just lies to herself about her past, her family...
And I hate her for it!

She doesn't lie... She just find it difficult to break her ideal vision of her family. You know, not all people want to accept that f.e. their parents are criminals. It's kind of line that is not always easy to cross, but Dany already made some progress in that regard. Ultimately if she wants to become a mature character, she will have to deal with that.

I wonder what would have happened if Viserys replaced her in her storyline.

Dany dying off and Viserys staying alive? Well we wouldn't be reading two books about a Targaryen's adventures in Essos. He would have sailed right back into Dorne and marry Arianne and try to rouse up Westeros for him. But he would be dead by book five either from doing something stupid or Varys making way for Aegon.
