I'm sorry to say this but i am not a big fan of the magic in a song of ice and fire, and believe it would be a better series without it. i would rather the dragons dont play a big part, but get killed to make Dany stronger and a more likable character.

@Suribachi-the plot armor ruins the realistic edge of "game of thrones" that is machinations in KL and Westeros south of the Wall, not books.
And i agree Stark children have large plot armor, except Rickon perhaps, but some of them-like Arya and Jon-have, at least in my opinion, a lot more interesting storylines and characters than Dany. I would actually like if Sansa or Bran would die, no one expects that and it would finally give credit to "every time you do xy, GRRM kills another Stark".
You pointed Jaime-but Dany has extremely good looks(Jaime not so much anymore), her nobility, which prevented her from really being no one and nothing. She was never that, except for that short interval between Drogo's death and MMD's, when she got her dragons and then she got practically showered with most of things she has. Drogo had to die so she could get dragons herself, otherwise she would have to share with him. So she really lost little, except her "love"(which i found a bit unrealistic to fall in love with man who she was afraid of just before and who practically treated her like a thing whose only purpose is to be ed every night.)
I know some may like her but personally i prefer Others to be beaten by human army armed with dragonsteel, not in few whooshes of fire by supernatural creatures which have no place in "game of thrones".

I do agree that she's pretty untouchable for now, but if she ever gets to Westeros, all bets are off as none of us have ANY idea how its all going to end up, other than a lot of characters are going to have to die before the series ends.

I hope GRRM starts killing off characters soon, or A Dream of Spring will be utterly drenched in blood. A lot of story lines need resolving. Or everyone just makes up and becomes friends, living happily ever after.

IIRC they died off beacuse they were getting smaller and weaker as they grew in Dragon's Pit which was too small for them. They had to inbreed, there was 3 of them to start with.

I think it was more in sense that there were no heroes with swords that killed dragons. Although maesters only had to finish the work beacuse dragons became small and weak.

Going back slightly more towards the thread topic, I don't really like Dany because of reasons listed before, such as the fact she's incredibly naive (Believing all the talk that the people of Westeros are clamouring for her return, I know she's been brough up by Viserys etc. but still)

Also because she reminds me of Cat so much in making her stubborn, stupid decisions with little to no compromise which mucks everything up. Also she's been a douche to Jorah, who I really like for reasons I can't quite decide upon. She even ignores the might Barristan Selmy on occasion! Impudent whelp.

Yes, it was stated that the Targaryen dragons were bred for war and thus never lived as long as their predecessors. Whether they were killed by other dragons or soldiers was never said.

Don't forget the book 5 epiphany. I'm get a feeling that Dany is going to be more competent in books 6 and 7. On the other hands, if her chapters continue to be akward and full of "What the hell" moments, expect her to fail.

I'm pretty sure that this series is going to end happily for the surviving characters, or at least not horribly. Regardless of how realistic your writing is, everything ends that way, or the ending seems incomplete. Imagine if Harry Potter was defeated by V. and stuck into a dungeon to be tortured for the rest of his life- The end. See?
