I think her purpose is in the last two books. The others at the wall seem to me to be the real threat to Westeros. In my opinion GRRM is going to have the wall come down and the others flood south just as Dany finally reaches Westeros and is on the chopping block. Then her dragons will come into play as the weapon of choice.

Otherwise I agree with what many are saying. Dany is acting naive. But then again she is a teenager in ADWD... I think she is acting almost exactly the way any teen would, smitten by the 'bad boy' Darrio and her reluctance to do what is necessary to save Mereen. It just seems like the way a normal teenage girl would act, along with the frequent mood swings and resistance to proper council.

I dont really hate her or dislike her. I just have annoyance with her military descisions. Being an armchair general with a special interest in pre-gunpowder warfare some of the things she does are just irritating. However here I restate my point about her being a teenage girl... I mean cmon, which one of us can truely say we always listened to good advice, never had a crush on the bad boy/girl, or acted naive when we were that young?

THIS, THIS A THOUSAND TIMES THIS.

Robb: Bangs one chick once gets everyone murdered and ruins everything for everyone.

Danys: Has a secret relationship with some sellsword prick - everything fine and like four groups coming to save her. Someone nearly dying in her place is about it...

LETTING HER LIVE IS NOT BALLSY IT'S EXPECTED. Grrm doesn't write a fairytale, that's why she doesn't deserve to live, she discredits his own work by breaking all the rules which apply to everyone else. Anyone else can die at any time - but not her.

I reckon she and the dragons will die defeating the others in a climatic battle, magic will once more fade into superstition and what few characters survive (Probably about 11 people in the whole kingdoms) sadly pick up the pieces.

I don't really hate her but she is by far one of the most annoying characters. She's a teenager yes but she won't change much into adulthood. Some of her chapters are ok, the stealing of the slave army in Astapor = good
Spending four books getting there and then another two doing nothing = bad

Because life isn't fair, that's why.

Why does Squire Dalbridge get to die a lonely, unmourned death trying to hold back a horde of wildings, whilst Cersei Lannister is a complete psychopath with power over the realm? Because life isn't fair, that's why.

Why does a kindly, impartial old Maester like Luwin get murdered whilst Ramsay Snow gets to flay people alive? Because life isn't fair, that's why.

And anyway, if it was a book where everyone got what they deserved on a linear, sliding scale, where would be the fun it that? In fact isn't that supposed to be one of the great selling points of this book? The innocent suffer and the wicked prosper? Just like real life?

    Well said IBSXYPNTS.

Trot - she's hardly gone scot free has she? Lost a husband, brother, child and army? Anyway, history shows the Game of Thrones is as much about luck and timing, the lottery of births and deaths, as much as it is about intelligence and military prowess.

GRRM said the ending of the story is set in stone and he won't change it regardless of what the fanbase knows or wants. Hence if R + L = J, he isn't going to change that because that's what the fanbase seems to think. I don't know if GRRM could've anticipated that Dany would get such a major hate train, but if he did making her Queen of Westeros would be a typical GRRM thing to do, but it'd piss a lot of people off, just like the Red Wedding did.

But in my personal opinion, I'd prefer Hodor as King of Westeros over Dany.
Actually, I'd prefer the Others to kill everyone in Westeros over Dany.

To be completely honest, Dany has had a lot of luck. She really should've been dead several times over by now.

I agree, but I still think that Robb should come back to life and kill Dany, the Boltons, Tommen, Cersei, Jaime, Brienne (she's annoying) and some other people too. Doran Martell shall rule the seven kingdoms, except for the North, with an ironfist, and Oberyn Martell, also back from the dead, shall lead and army of sellswords, clansmen from the Vale and Unsullied armed with Valyrian spears, which Dany brought back from Valyria, before getting killed, and defeat the Others in a bloody battle, where most of the Night's Watch also dies, but by some odd luck Jon Snow and all his old friends survive.

+ rep for that lovely tale. Sadly I expect Jon and his chum to live some how. I know it's unfair but it's unfair on the premise that if they up good or bad they're going to die. This doesn't apply to Dany, apparently.

Her Brother got put to death by her and it was hardly a loss to her. Her family she hardly knew and she's a teenager who knew her Husband less than a year, hardly a loss is it? Stannis on the other hand... Do you know how long he's been married? And his wife's ALWAYS had that mustache... Some highborns have all the luck

I still maintain that Dany gets far too much hate - hate that can be much more justifiably directed at Lady Catelyn Stark. Reading her chapters is an exercise in anger-management.

True, but at least she killed some Freys. Has Dany ever killed a Frey? Didn't think so

Yeah, some Freys, her husband, all her husbands household, her son (y'know, her king, the one she consistently defies and undermines...)

I disagree, from her point of view she does what's right or how she'd do it. She's just not blessed with Dany's ability to luck through it all but still got less people killed and caused less damage. She is dealing with actual emotional stress from two kidnapped children, a dead husband and then two more dead kids all while riding round the kingdom on misdirection I get why she might be over protective but she still does undeniably balls up.

    What annoys me
    Spoiler
Is at the RW Grey winds clearly thinking something's up and they're not slightly suspicious, they have every reason to listen out to signs from him!

Cat's worst idea wasn't releasing Jaime in my opinion, it was taking Tyrion captive. It's like, "Hurr durr, I don't think the Lannisters will mind!"

    And as for Grey Wind

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Re-read the chapters where Cat was with Robb. Grey Wind, and all the Stark Direwolves, seem to display unease or a vicioussness when something's up

Not only do they display unease and other more obvious things when something is up but also Greywind in particular helps them get through difficult situations and battles no less than three times. If Robb's warged with it as much as Jon had at the same time he should know it knows when is up to something. At no other time in the books do they put their direwolves actions down to random pet behavior then they do at the RW.
