I guess it all depends on the time period, but if they span most of Rome's existence, I'm thinking:
-Cimbrian migration
-Sparticus Revolt
-Civil Wars
-Mithradates
-Any type of barbarian incursion(Huns, Goths, etc.)
Any thing else?

Huns are far later in the game setting probably as well as goths...
As for other events , would be cool to see Some more natural events .... Perhaps even a dynamic weather system , visible floods , volcano eruptions , animal migrations etc...but perhaps is asking too much....

I agree, dynamic is better. It is silly if you know "oh, next turn Pompeii will be covered by ashes, better move my garrison outta there"
Cimbrian migration as you said
the destruction of the colossus of rhodes
the fire of 64 that destroyed a large part of rome
445 bc event allowing plebs and patricians to marry
the Latin wars
the pyrrhic wars (an alliance between rome and carthage would be interesting)

Events that help factions in trouble could be interesting. Such as the rise of a great general, or help from an ally.
Hannibal crossing the Alps
He's comin' for ya.
