Default Lysa Arryn (spoilers until end of SOS)

Hi, i just finished Storm of swords and was very conflicted by Lysa Arryns character. I normally feel a certain way to characters e.g pity for Tyrion, but for Lysa i couldnt decide whether i felt sorry for her or just plain angry, seeming as she arguably started the war of the five kings.

she isn't really the cersei level in evilness, and causes for her madness are understandable(getting torn apart of her love to marry very old husband who doesn't love her and all those years in KL) but i was glad when she died, relieved.

She was getting so annoying in that final chapter i wanted to personally slap her so hard i felt bad for Sansa.

But if i recall she was also drunk in those last moments. I would say her death was sad, but she was a weak person always thinking of herself as less than Catelyn

She's a good example of what love does to a person (in the worst of circumstances)

at the end of the day she was quite weak. intrestingly she reminded me of sansa. Sansa looks like her mother, and has a personality more like her aunt.

Personally I just have to hate both the Tully sisters. If it wasn't for the two of them the war would never have started and Ned would never have died

THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT! CAT KILLED NED!

I don't think she killed Ned, she speeded a war that was comming. Ned was killed because he discovered the truth about Cersei's sons being in fact Jaimie's, he killed himself by naively acting against her. Well, he was in a tough situation, surrounded by snakes. Also the war is a result of plots and power ambitions. Perhaps Cersei would have eventually killed Robert when Joffrey reached adulthood, resulting in Renly and Stannis fighting for the crown.

Only a fool would disagree with that stattement. Catelyn foolishly took Tyrion hostage with no evidence that he had actualy done anything.
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

But Petyr, Petyr said so. He would never lie.

Lysa was never the same after
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Hoster made her drink moon tea to abort the baby she had with Littlefinger.
Was she evil? No, at least not in my opinion. Was she mentally unstable? Oh, hell yes.

How many people are truly evil in the books though? I can only think of a few.
    Sandor Clegane
    Gregore Clegane
    Vargo Hoate

Does Sandor belong on that list? You can probably add Ramsay Bolton and maybe Euron Crow's Eye

I wouldn't say Sandor is truly evil like Gregor or Vargo. Although Ramsey Bolton is very evil.

    Edit: ^ Ahh you bugger...

When you put it that way, I guess it really comes down to how you define "evil." If by "evil" you mean:

    Misanthropic (Sandor, Craster)
Violent for violence's sake (Gregor and his men, the Dothraki khals, Bloodbeard, Allar Deem)
Sadistic (Ramsay Snow and the Bastard's Boys, Vargo Hoat and the Bloody Mummers, Joffrey)
Amoral/unethical (Littlefinger, Qyburn, Roose Bolton, Daario Naharis)
Petty (Walder Frey, Janos Slynt, Alliser Thorne)
    Insane (Aerys, Viserys)
    Power-hungry (Cersei, Euron)
    Mystical/supernatural (Melisandre, Moqorro, the Others)

...then I guess you could say there are quite a few "evil" characters in the books.

One of the definitions of evil is someone who takes pleasure in causing pain and suffering for no reason other than for the said pleasure. Sandor clegane fits this perfectely and is thus evil.

I do not think the Dothraki are evil because they do what they do because it is all they have known. In a world where kindness is considered weak, where there isn't even a word for thank you and where everryone is just waiting for a show of weakness to gut you and take your place can you be anything but brutal? The original Dhothraki consciously chose to be that way but at this point if one of them chooses to be nice they would be killed by their own people.

Roose Bolton I would not think as evil either merely because he shows no traits that are not common among his ancestors. For all we know he was raised to think what he does is fine.

People like Joffrey, Aerys and Viseryes can not really be considered evil because as mad men they were not eally in control of their actions.

I found the end of the third book to be a little predictable, but nevertheless quite shocking. I always thought the Lysa Arryn in the Series was portrayed too crazy (she was nothing else there...), but it comes all together now. She had a bad time and a bad life yes, but lets not forget Petyr was behind all this.

And yeah, Petyr should be on the list of evil characters. Like in the picture, he is the perfect "Lawful Evil" (if you know D&D you'll understand ), he takes what he wants, using society and all the people at his disposal, without and conscience. I mean he actually sneaks into the Vale and in the end forces Lysa into utter crazyness, before killing her through her own execution door. Needless to say that HE was behind the death of Jon Arryn.

And here's a predicable thing after reading the Epilogue (please don't tell me whether I am right or wrong though if you know ): I bet Petyr Baelish will die by the hands of Zombie Cat.

Joffery was evil as hell,so is Ramsey and even Tywin a little bit.
(I also would not consider Sandor Clegane or even Vargo Hoate "truly evil".)

Both Vargo Hoate and Sandor Clegane are clearly evil in that they love to cause pain.

Ramsay and Joffrey are not considered evil merely because they are mentally ill and thus have no control over their actions.

    As for Tywin:
In certain schools of political philosophy, leaders are encouraged to be indifferent to good or evil, taking actions based solely on practicality.

This is utter , Sandor is clearly more "ill" than Joffrey. The kid is just plain evil/sadistic. Sandor is just ed up.
