Just a thought for the developers and Jack.
Is Rome 2 going to feature hero-type units for some of the factions like in Shogun 2. If so, what tyep of units can we expect?
What are your opinions?

Please anything but that.
I simply don't want to play Warcraft 3.
They have talked about the hypotheses of some historical figure showing up like Caesar but they haven't explained at all how this is supposed to happen.
That simply don't make sense since you are supposed to create your own empire. How he is supposed to appear if my Epirote kingdom has conquered all the Italy ?
Its not warcraft and is much more complex than that , even medieval 2 coudl mmanage to not make appear a leader if was tied to a specific country and if that country is conquered , tough this doesnt mean that if other regions aren0t conquered it can't appear elsewhere , it could still simulate that the Julii family migrated abroad after the conquest of Italy in another Colony for example ...
As for Hero units Caesar shouln't be a Hero unit but a General Unit ... I do not see much place for fantasy Hero unit crap like in STW2 ... but if they do then they shoudl Put surely the Dioscuri lol ...

I'm about 50/50 on it, I like them in Shogun 2 but they'd be kinda silly in R2 (Well they were kinda silly in S2 but given the setting it just kind of felt appropriate) and not including them would make sense. But then again they're fun and kind of neat and I enjoy playing with them so really it feels like personal preference.
If they are included having an option to turn them off might be nice though.
Please god no, and also don't return with the active magic abilities (warcry, singing arrows etc)
Maybe for the barbarians. Some kind of best warriors of the tribe, especially large and strong. With other nations, the focus is not on the individual but on the unit and formation.
I really liked the depiction from the Gladiator movie when at the battle in the beginning the stout German was swinging his hammer/club about and had to be taken down by 3 soldiers.
Seems more apt for an elite unit type than hero unit, if you start giving only some factions them it'll just throw off the whole balance. They were completely insane in S2 which was kinda the point, but if only the Barbarians get then... Why play anything else?
I think the fact that the game covers several hundred years pretty much rules this out as a plausible feature, because i for one wouldn't want to recruit a hero unit early in the game and still have the hero alive 200 years later...
EDIT: Making heroes age, like generals, would be the only way i'd accept adding them.

That what is supposed to be your elite unit.
The hero unit might be acceptable in Shogun 2 because you were able to field multiple samurai full stack.
So the hero unit simply replace what were the samurai during the era.
I do want epic Spartiate Hoplites though, one of my favorite parts about Rome.
For me you should be able to create ‘hero’ units. However, they would be very rare and earned not given. Instead of a genetic hero unit if your general reaches a certain stage of development, like 10 command stars and 7 influence, and consul, they become a ‘hero’. this gives them access to customisable armour, weapons, horses, extra men and extra general hit points. These generals should have greater ability to inspire troops, however if they fall in battle they moral drop should be massive.
Hmm perhaps when they become full veteran rank then get some nice bonuses such as inspire nearby troops. This would be more modern day heroes I guess.
We Came, We Saw, We Ran Away!
There wasn't anything "fantasy" about hero units in SII, as there's nothing fantastical about an elite hero/person with his elite bodyguard...
Like Gozen’s Hime Heroines ?I am not sure how much historically correct those are ... but if are intended as a "elite" unit for RTW2 then it coudl even go , but if intended like the STW1 SwordSaint unit , that alone coudl hold a whole bridge with hordes of men killing then no ...Naginata Heroine
In the hands of a great heroine, the Naginata becomes a graceful whirl of steel and bloody death.
