Default A Feature That Added A Lot- Zooming into a city

I am wondering if the ability to zoom to a city and see it on the battle map will be returning. It was not in any of the games except Rome Total War(to my knowledge) and was very unique.

This feature that was accessed by a small button at the bottom of the settlement details was very deep. All of the buildings that you had built would appear individually in the city. All of them were detailed and different. You could zoom around, see all of the residential areas, and even occasional squares and small parks. The citizens of the city walked the streets, both men and women. When a building was being built you could see the empty lot and small scaffolding, along with building materials. More extraordinary is that the building would then be in the same lot, and when upgraded would be replaced in the same lot. The city would expand over time, and you could see your capital slowly becoming the greatest city in the world.

Well that was long winded, but it seems that noone mentions this feature and it would be cool for some feedback.

Oh yeah, i remember that, it was an excellent addition to the game! I would love seeing that make a return in Rome 2, also now that we are in 2012 they could add in more depth like gladiator games in the amphitheaters, etc, etc...

I imagine it wouldn't be hard to add. It doesn't seem that way to me, at least. Because they already have a way to generate battle maps, and this should be the same except perhaps with civilians doing civilian things. Perhaps now they could add gladiator games, as suggested above, town watch patrolling, a governor riding through the street, etc. - there's a lot that could be done to make it feel like a living city, which would be awesome.

Absolutely! I was going to make thread about this, but you saved me the trouble. The Look-in feature was grand. The only problem was that all the cities looked the same.

That was one of the things that made Rome1 stand out. there was something there for everyone. They should do the Look-in feature and this time there should be differences in the city lay-outs and geography of the city. That would be a major improvement!

I never realized settlement view was that detailed.

I looked once or twice but just thought well this is the exact same thing as a siege I can look at the pretty buildings when im attacking them.

This is one thread I'll really support. It was nice and all, but I didn't do it very often (after you've done a few RTW campaign, you do get kind of tired of the repetitive city overlay)... although maybe if one could see small every day activities happening as one watches the city from above one could stay for quite a while there. Any one has played AoEIII? The game itself was average, in my opinion, but one of the things I liked the most was customizing your "Home City". I really enjoyed just sitting there, and waiting for those special characters like the juggler, or policeman, came up and did their special little animation. It really added life and meaning to the whole "Home City" concept that AoEIII introduced, and I usually don't go that crazy for customizable stuff.
