I'm pretty sure historically that's how lances looked - at least jousting ones.

I don't think we'll get 'neon' colours - since Rome, the colours haven't been too bad in my opinion.

Oh Shogun 2 had its share of neon and fluorescent faction color schemes and the raise of the samurai DLC was horrid imo.

Yeah. It's well known that mercenaries patterned their clothing based on paper money used millenia after they died. I mean, camouflage hadn't been thought of yet.
