Failure to Launch, Captain.

Hi people, long time lurker on here. Shame my first post is an issue, but I'll rectify that with a vengeance!

I bought Shogun 2 on disc. I have installed the 10gb or so of patches. After it says 'preparing to launch', the window disappears and absolutely nothing happens. No crashes, nothing. Seems as if this is a fairly common problem. The same thing happens to two other, newer games I purchased through Steam, but the older games seem to run fine (Empire, Medieval II etc).

I've reinstalled c++ and directX, updated graphics and audio drivers, verified game cache. Nothing seems to work. The guys I bought my computer from said that reinstalling Windows completely seems to fix it. This is obviously a last resort, so if anyone could give me some advice, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I've included my dxdiag. I am running Google Chrome, but because the other two games didn't work before this one, I presume it's an issue with my c++ or directx.

Uninstall Google Chrome.
Also uninstall the free version of AVG if you have it installed.
Chrome plays with the game and AVG plays with Steam.

Have you verified the game cache?
Have you checked your permissions through your antivirus, firewall, and/or router?

I've tried both of those, even going sofar as to uninstall my anti-virus. Looks like a full windows re installation is my only option.
