Default Alleged German Olympic Neonazi quits Olympics

Nadja Drygalla, a member of the German women's eights rowing team, left the Olympic village in London and returned home Thursday night. Her team missed out on the final in the event, which was won by Team U.S.A..
The 23-year-old Drygalla is believed to be in a relationship with Michael Fischer a member of the far-right political party the NPD. Fischer is also alleged to be a member of the neo-Nazi group Nationale Sozialisten Rostock.
The German Rowing Association and Michael Vesper, general secretary of Germany's Olympic Association, said Friday they spoke with Drygalla after the allegations emerged and she agreed to leave the Olympic village.
"At the end of our conversation, Ms. Drygalla said she would leave the Olympic village in order to prevent any burden to the (German) Olympic team," Vesper said. "I welcomed that." The German Rowing Association said it would investigate the claims.
The news quickly spread across online and broadcast media in Germany. Public broadcaster NDR unearthed reports linking Drygalla to neo-Nazi as far back as March of last year.
Olympic rowing is a ratings winner in Germany. So far this Olympics, the rowing events have delivered two gold medals - in the Mens Eights and Men's Quadruple Sculls and a silver in the Women's Quadruple Sculls for Team Germany.
Drygalla was training to be a police office in her home state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern but, according to media reports, left the police last September. The state's interior ministry confirmed the rower had left the police voluntarily but declined to give any information about her possible links to the neo-Nazi scene.

It seems that the neo-Nazi problem is still quite strong in Germania, and one can only assume her leaving the team was an indirect admission. What are the ramifications for neo-Nazism in Germany?

"The cheapest form of pride however is national pride. For it reveals in the one thus afflicted the lack of individual qualities of which he could be proud, while he would not otherwise reach for what he shares with so many millions. He who possesses significant personal merits will rather recognise the defects of his own nation, as he has them constantly before his eyes, most clearly. But that poor blighter who has nothing in the world of which he can be proud, latches onto the last means of being proud, the nation to which he belongs to. Thus he recovers and is now in gratitude ready to defend with hands and feet all errors and follies which are its own."-- Arthur Schopenhauer

Indeed, I don't know why they'd let Neonazis on an Olympic team.

What ridicoulus is that certain political views are not tolerated, while others are. What's next? Banning people that are Communists?

The political views of athletes should not be the determining factor in whether they are allowed at the Olympics or not.

I would say that considering Neonazi beliefs are directly opposed to the Olympics, yes, it should be a determining factor.

That got me wondering as well. Extreme right-wing parties are considered a plight whereas the extreme left-wing ones have received wide recognition and legitimation.
Under the patronage of Emperor Maximinus Thrax
"Steps to be taken in case Russia should be forced out of war considered. Various movements [of ] troops to and from different fronts necessary to meeting possible contingencies discussed. Conference also weighed political, economic, and moral effect both upon Central and Allied powers under most unfavorable aspect from Allied point of view. General conclusions reached were necessity for adoption of purely defensive attitude on all secondary fronts and withdrawing surplus troops for duty on western front. By thus strengthening western front [those attending] believed Allies could hold until American forces arrive in numbers sufficient to gain ascendancy."

They let Nazi Germany compete in the Olympics, I think precedent for allowing the far right to compete is set.

True nazis would not take part in the olympics, by being in the olympics it proves that she wasn't a nazi, she just rode one.

Sure, that's why we had a trio on a decade-long murder trip, and no one noticed.

So the Nazis of 1936 were no true Nazis?

They were showmen, it was of great embarrassment to nazis that Aryans didn't excel in every sport.
The ideology of the modern Olympics is against everything the nazis stand for.

Certainly, the terrorism that was led by extremist leftists gave cause to scrutinize the extreme left as well. This actually happened. During that time, in Germany, leftists were severely scrutinized (this always reminds me of the Katharina Blum film). Hence, people noticed alright. However, leftist terrorism in Germany no longer seems prevalent. Instead, rightist terrorism would appear more prevalent, at least at the moment, as the recent Zwickau incident and general attacks against foreigners would indicate. The point is, both extreme rightists and leftists receive scrutiny depending on the perceived extent to which they endanger public "Ordnung" (order), or to the extent to which either endangers the "allgemeine Zweck der deutschen Demokratie" (the general end of German democracy).
