Default Fall of the Samurai Naval Battles-Wind Directions

Does it matter? because I have never seen the sails on any of my ships open...

I do believe wind still matters but not as much as in Shogun 2. You're mostly blessed with greater maneuverability in FotS.

You are slowed down ever so slightly if going against the wind.

    Never gone paddling before?

I think its a basic assumption that going against the wind creates more drag and therefore slows you down. I think it affects your acceleration more than anything else.

AFAIK sails were only used getting to and from battle to conserve fuel. Once in battle they used their engines as the risk of sails catching fire was simply too great.

LoL yes indeed, historically, steam was not used exclusively at this point, so again my question is! WHY DON'T THE BLOODY SAILS OPEN?! XD

I would prefer my steam engine if I was the ship's captain. Only when the engine failed would I switch to sail, not to fight but to flee from the battle
