Does anyone know if the children of these characters will appear in the game despite not being in the tree?
I'm not refering to generals BTW.

I do not KNOW, but I cannot remember ever having that happen in my campaigns. It would mean a new general popping out of nowhere once an "unshown" son comes of age, would it not?
No idea. They are getting marriage offers and I am letting them marry, but will they have offspring...
If I remember right they do!
Once ( after I modded the desc_strat in a bad way => no relation between King and heir ) I had a heir not appearing in the family tree.
He was offerd a marriage and I accepted.
After my King died the whole tree changed into the heirs family... the wife was displayed and he already had some children too!
They were below 12 so I cannot say if they would have spawned as bodyguard units while the King would have been alive... but with the "new" King they did!
Any generals adopted into the family tree are capable of having children - both sons and daughters - and they appear in the game themselves as playable characters.
EDIT: After reading the first post closer, not entirely sure what you're referring to.
Yes they will or at least in my experience they will appear. In the late Byzantine campaign where I believe there are two additional hidden family tree lines at the beginning I was actually able to keep one of them alive for several generations until eventually one of them became the Emperor and the family tree changed from the original.
As you can see I did this mainly by marrying my princesses to their male offsprings.

I wish I had married the head of the invisible tree into the tree with my princess at the start of the game. I now have a huge family I can't see, but I'm glad to hear that this invisible tree counts towards my family's survival at least.
Can you please explain to what kind of characters are you reffering to ?
I know there are the Family members that appear into the family tree and the Generals that don't appear into the family tree (generals can't get marriage offers). Are there other kinds ? Never encountered them.

Yes, family members that are not in the tree.
wow ... how can you get those ?
is there any faction that starts with some of those ?

Well I was playing Norway...
Well Byzantines/Romans are sort of infamous for their "hidden" family treesDon't get me wrong, it's a cool feature, resembles the internal power struggles nicely, but it's damn hard to keep track of your other FMs

Yea, in BC you have the Ibelins as a second family in the KOJ. You can maintain it by marrying your princesses to the new males of age. Also as others have stated if someone of other family becomes king the tree switches. It is useful when attempting to avoid extinction. Sometimes I just prefer marrying a princess to a recruited general though.
I'm back. A non family tree family member appeared in my new Crusader States campaign and I have some questions.
It first started when I got a marriage offer for Catherine de Reviers.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The name didn't sound familiar so I went to check the family tree and this Catherine wasn't there.

I checked in every city to see if she is a royal princess or something, but couldn't find her; so this means she is just a non-royal princess...
I accepted the offer and she married Guion de Melval and Guion is now an official non family tree family member.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
I saved before accepting and paused the campaign for the moment because I want to know if Guion's sons will have 'Of Crusader blood' trait; if they won't have it then I won't accept the marriage offer.
