I too have wondered this for awhile. Especially since the vast majority of units are 1 HP ones, so any damage kills them outright.

They are chanter units and not really healer units like Warcraft 3 priests. In ME II Total War, any healing happens after the battle. I do not know whether or not healers have an effect on the amount of units that "resurrect" after the fight. What they really do is keep unit morale up and damage enemy morale so their men fight longer while enemies turn and run. At the moment, I believe they do the same thing as ReDeads and Gibdos. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure of this.

So am I just a completely out of touch idiot, or are Zora Healers actually Suprisingly good in a fight despite their atrocious stats?

They fight well enough when they have to. You should see them in the campaign when they are serving as Ruto's bodyguards. 16 attack, 12 defense IIRC. To quote the Team Fortress 2 Medic, "That was doctor assisted homicide."

Unfortunately, healing in battle is not possible.

The chant that they do does boost morale whilst draining the enemy's.

In that case not only could they help with moral was but maybe they could help with refresh rate after a battle? Even faster in friendly or Ally territory but be slow but still get refresh in hostile territory. This is a pretty big bonus so maybe restrict campaign movement because they are carrying there dead.

It's pretty obvious that they are just normal chanter units, healing in battle has never been possible in Total War. That would make them entirely overpowered. Imagine: a full stack of nothing but Zora Healers, all healing each other. Unstoppable.

Besides, it would be totally unrealistic. Wounds received in battle don't just magically heal in a matter of minutes. Even when operating in a magical universe like LoZ that would be entirely too arbitrary.

Yeah, there's never been anything in Zelda capable of healing you instantly, like potions or fairies that would even heal you after you fall dead from losing your last hit point.

    Oh wait...

Now, now. Different style of game. It would be unbalancing and in my opinion not fun to have a stack pop a magic heal in a strategy game that is not an RTS in the vein of Warcraft and Starcraft.

Also it wouldn't make sense for a whole entire army to have bottled fairies. That sounds like grounds for invasion by Tarm.

While it makes sense for one hero to have access to that sort of thing in a game where you are one versus many, it would not translate well to the grand strategy format.

(If you want to open a can of real worms, why couldn't the various factions of the games just suck it up and defeat the forces of evil without Link's help if they could just pop magic heals whenever they wanted?)

Shopkeeper that instantly kills you with a lightning bolt if you steal an item and come back to the shop. He could solo all the evil. 'nuff said.

Well they could have a lot of red potion. But I'm not saying they should, I was just pointing out that in nearly every Zelda game there's means to instantly restore your health in response to

They also say his beam is similar to the beam Aghanim uses on you in ALttP. Real or not, this guy is not someone you want to mess with.

I remember making a Warcraft III custom zombie map - every unit that wasn't a zombie spawned a zombie on death for the zombie's side. Fun times! Took a lot of work to balance the weakness of zombies and their large numbers.
